Role description:
- Provide professional leadership in Civil and Structural disciplines establishing and consolidating relationships with BA leads, providing technical capability, supporting the delivery of projects or specialised components of projects.
- Provide strategic and Technical leadership for the entire UK GEC team, aligning it with the overall business objectives.
- Support the management of risk on major projects by leading independent technical reviews and following up review findings with Operations director.
- Develop and implement a technical strategy that supports the long-term goals of GEC and BA
- Oversee project management activities with Project Delivery director and Discipline directors, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and meet quality standards.
Working Relationships & Contact
- Operations Directors- Liaise to define and negotiate support for the programme implementation with a focus around embedding changes into business as usual.
- Service Line -Lead development of capability within Civil and Strcutures disciplines and area of expertise and contribute to wider Service development within other disciplines.
- Resource Managers - supporting the development of competencies in business line and identifying skills needs to support the project deliveries.
- Clients and Senior Stakeholders – Discuss and define project objectives, review and communicate project status and facilitate resolution of project issues and risks. ·
- Innovation: Promote a culture of innovation, encouraging the exploration of new technologies and methodologies.
- Stakeholder Communication: Communicate effectively with senior leadership, and other stakeholders on technical and operational matters, providing updates on progress and addressing concerns
Role accountabilities:
- Leads, plans, directs, supervises, and controls the execution of all business, technical and executional functions of the assigned project, task or subtasks.
- Develop and review the scope of project work, reports, schedules, and budgets for the assigned project elements, and monitors progress to meet schedule and budget requirements.
- Build relationships with key stakeholders and BA leads to identify and realise business opportunities to ensure client expectations are met or exceeded.
- Evaluate technical competence of senior staff proposed for projects and identify specific training and mentoring needs in consultation with Discipline directors.
- On complex projects, lead an engineering team, setting objectives and managing performance, to ensure that the team has the resources and capability to execute the project ensuring client satisfaction, effective technical management and good communication and collaboration between BA and GEC colleagues.
- Provide inspiring leadership by taking technical line management responsibility for the development and performance management of team members to support the delivery.
- Coach and mentor senior engineering professionals to support the development of GEC’s talent pool and help to realize their potential.
- Through an effective review process, oversee the technical delivery of major and complex projects meeting both quality and budgetary targets, whilst striving to exceed client expectations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to help deliver multi-D project including to develop initiatives that align with business goals.
- Contribute complex technical aspects of bids to support the production of high quality winning pursuits.
- Provide required technical support and lead the technical trainings programs for team members.
- Maintain records of Continuing Professional Development and comply with audit requirements of the relevant professional institution.
- Leverage digital capability to deliver engineering solutions.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Have a BEng and/or MSc/MEng or equivalent in Civil/ Structure Engineering from a reputed institution.
- Have achieved Chartered professional status.
- Have significant relevant experience including leadership of the development and implementation of engineering solutions.
- Demonstrate at all times the skills around independent judgement, professional commitment and responsibility demanded.
- Demonstrate at all times the inter-personal and communication skills demanded.
- Have strong technical skills in Structural design.
- Understand how to provide leadership around health, safety and welfare within own area of responsibility.
- Use the Arcadis SHE culture to drive continuous improvement in health, safety and welfare.
- Are experienced in leading - working with, people from varied discipline, backgrounds and cultures and can demonstrate inspiring leadership.
- Demonstrate at all times the management and leadership skills.
- Have experience of managing business relationships with internal and external clients.
- Demonstrate at all times the levels of knowledge and understanding of engineering demanded for delivery of complex projects.
- Demonstrate at all times the level of technical and practical application of engineering skills.
- Understand required services in specialist disciplines.
- Use extensive knowledge of statutory and commercial frameworks within own area of responsibility and have an appreciation of other commercial arrangements.
- Have a sound knowledge of sustainable development best practice and routinely deliver sustainable technical solutions.
- Lead engineering activities that contribute to sustainable development.
