Role description:

Role accountabilities:


  • Develop and implement excellence in risk management across client portfolios & programmes ensuring compliance with programme and client governance, processes and objectives. 
  • Apply a strategic approach to risk management from portfolio to project level, demonstrating reduction in client exposure to risk through active mitigation of threat and maximisation of opportunity. 
  • Use knowledge and experience gained on large programmes of work to ensure identification and management of all significant risks to achievement of client objectives regarding the programme including interfaces with other programmes and projects.
  • Integrate risk management with programme controls functions including change control, progress reporting, schedule management and baseline control, cost and commercial management and document management.
  • Deliver high quality risk analysis modelling services to enable robust risk provisions to be set for projects and programmes, using technical capability to increase client’s certainty of outcomes and to optimise client delivery programmes. 
  • Produce risk periodic performance reports and profiled risk expenditure and track / optimise risk budgets based on anticipated expiry of risk.
  • Delivery of training, mentoring and coaching to risk managers and others to develop risk management skill-set (requirements, processes and benefits of risk management). Demonstrate strong team-building acumen.
  • Deliver small and medium scale projects ensuring appropriate use of resources, budgets to deliver the required scope of work within set deadlines.
  • Engaging with clients and external stakeholders to build and maintain relationships creating working opportunities to develop new business and extend existing business.
  • Lead project, programme and strategic risk management projects, controlling project finance and project business and timescales.

Qualifications & Experience:


  • Degree educated with 10+ years risk management experience including evidence of embedding & delivering risk management on major programmes and portfolios.
  • Risk Management qualification, such as IRM Certificate, IRM Diploma, or APM Risk Certificate Level 1
  • Project Management Qualification, such as APM PMQ
  • Extensive experience of using QRA tools such as ARM, @Risk, Primavera Risk Analysis (previously ‘Pertmaster’) and Acumen Risk. 
  • Prior experience in the integration of cost and schedule risk modelling to produce confidence levels for costs and completion dates in support of investment decisions and in relation to the management of major programmes. Experience to include modelling complex logic-linked cost-loaded programmes with in-depth understanding of planning tools and techniques.
  • Evidence of ability to work effectively in a programme management environment together with demonstrable understanding of programme management approach and controls techniques.
  • Proven experience in setting up and managing teams in the application of innovative risk management techniques at programme level and/or in a Programme Management Office (PMO) environment, implementing risk management in an integrated manner with other programme controls disciplines.
  • Robust understanding of construction contracts and the relationship between risk management and contract administration / change control / baseline management / monitoring and reporting / budgeting & governance / planning & scheduling / document management / cost & commercial management / project & programme management.
  • Evidence of ability to integrate value management process with risk management process, showing an appreciation of Benefits and Requirement Management and the implications for the Value Engineering and Risk Management processes.
  • Evidence of previous experience in defining and implementing risk management strategies within major client organisations and specifically at programme level. 
  • Appreciation of significant issues facing major programmes. 
  • Demonstrable experience in the leadership, management and development of teams and able to articulate approach for motivation of teams in support of the risk management process.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and facilitation skills.
  • Evidence of and ability to articulate collaborative working style and consulting behaviours.
  • A logical approach and ability to think through complex issues to co-ordinate multi-faceted aspects of projects
  • Experience in managing business relationships at management level 

Desirable:


  • Membership of a professional body (e.g. APM, IRM)
  • Qualifications in MoR
  • Successful development and implementation of risk management processes at portfolio or corporate level.
  • Rish management workshops
