As a Sr. Principal Software Systems Engineer focused on Software, Systems, and Advanced Technology, you will lead technological innovation and execution across multiple advanced domains including Cloud, IoT, AI/ML, and Embedded software systems. This role is designed to provide strategic technical leadership to the Software Systems teams in Cardiovascular, Neuroscience and Medical Surgical portfolio at MEIC, ensuring that engineering teams are aligned with cutting-edge technology trends, best practices, and frameworks for delivering high-quality software solutions. You will be responsible for partnering with technology leadership across OUs, Software Communities of Practice (CoPs), ensuring implementation of principles Design for Software Reliability and Manufacturability (CRM) & driving software excellence.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams and leadership to align on the technology roadmap, reviewing project progress, identifying risks, and prioritizing Cloud, IoT, AI/ML initiatives, with an awareness of embedded systems and their integration into product development.
- Clinical Needs Translation: Collaborate with clinical and product teams to translate clinical needs into clear software requirements, ensuring that software solutions address both technical and user-centric outcomes, especially for embedded systems.
- Technical Advisory Participation: Participate in Technical Advisory Committees to ensure that system designs are scalable, secure, and adhere to governance frameworks while considering the specific demands of embedded software architectures.
- Product & Business Alignment: Partner with product teams to balance technical feasibility with business goals, shaping product features, managing technical debt, and ensuring embedded systems meet clinical and operational expectations.
- Software Quality Leadership: Lead efforts to enhance software quality through structured processes like Design for Reliability and Manufacturability (DRM), Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Plans (PSQIP), and ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO 13485 and IEC 62304, with a focus on embedded systems.
- Knowledge Sharing & Best Practices: Partner with Communities of Practice to foster knowledge sharing across teams, discussing best practices in software engineering, systems design, embedded software, and emerging technologies.
- Stakeholder Communication: Present updates and technical roadmaps to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with long-term strategic objectives and addressing the unique requirements of embedded software systems.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives by assessing software maturity levels and implementing best practices to elevate product quality, focusing on the integration of embedded systems and ensuring alignment with clinical and regulatory standards.
- Serve as a technical leader in advanced technology domains such as Cloud Computing, IoT, AI/ML, Embedded applications ensuring alignment with organizational goals and industry advancements.
- Oversee architecture governance, ensuring compliance with standards for security, scalability, and software quality.
- Conduct technical feasibility assessments for emerging technologies, guiding strategic decision-making.
- Oversee end-to-end software engineering processes, ensuring efficiency, quality, and adherence to best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Lead efforts in systems engineering, ensuring compliance with clinical/therapy requirements and healthcare standards like IEC 62304 and ISO 13485.
- Conduct technical reviews to assess the design quality, technical risk, and delivery strategies of software and system solutions.
- Advocate for the incorporation of Software Design for Reliability and Manufacturability (DRM), ensuring long-term operational efficiency and software reliability.
- Foster collaboration across technology domains through Communities of Practice (CoPs), driving a culture of innovation and knowledge sharing.
- Promote Innovation culture through the conduction of innovation scouting and mentoring innovative ideas.
- Reporting Reports to the Director of Software Technology
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams (business analysts, developers, end-users) to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- B-Tech/BE in Computer Science, Electronics, or related field with 20+ years of experience in Software and Systems Engineering, OR
- ME/M-Tech with 18+ years of relevant experience.
- Proven track record in leading technology teams and innovation across Cloud, IoT and software systems.
- Expertise in architecture governance, with deep experience in defining and implementing software design and development frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of software engineering processes, including the development of tools and techniques to drive efficiency and scalability.
- Hands-on experience with technical evaluations and feasibility studies for emerging technologies.
- Deep familiarity with product security frameworks, regulatory standards, and compliance.
- Expertise in systems engineering, with an understanding of clinical/therapy domains and healthcare standards.
- Leadership in Technical Innovation, including leading and/or mentoring teams in clinical and/or software innovations.
- Preferred experience with Six Sigma and/or Design for Reliability and Manufacturability (DRM) frameworks.
- Preferred Knowledge of AI/ML frameworks and their integration into large-scale systems.
- Preferred experience in R&D, technology landscapes, and road mapping for advanced tech.
- Preferred previous work in regulated industries like medical devices or healthcare technology.
- Preferred to have demonstrated leadership in software quality initiatives with a focus on ISO 13485 and IEC 62304.
