What you will do

In this vital role you will lead the ABAP development team through the sophisticated S/4HANA transformation, being responsible for the design, development, and migration of critical SAP solutions. You will play a pivotal role in driving the transformation of legacy systems to SAP S/4HANA while adhering to the SAP Clean Core principles. This leadership role demands expertise in handling large-scale SAP projects, aligning business needs with technical solutions, and ensuring a smooth transition of custom code and applications from SAP ECC to S/4HANA.

You will lead a team of ABAP developers, ensuring high-quality delivery of end-to-end solutions using the latest SAP technologies, such as ABAP on S/4HANA, Fiori/UI5, RAP (Restful ABAP Programming), CAP (Cloud Application Programming), and SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). Additionally, you will develop collaboration between multi-functional teams and collaborators to ensure project alignment and successful implementations.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Lead the S/4HANA transformation, handling the migration of custom code from ECC to S/4HANA, including technical remediation, code optimization, and implementation of Clean Core frameworks.

  
  

• Supervise the design, development, and maintenance of ABAP programs, including RICEFW objects, to ensure scalable and high-performance solutions in SAP S/4HANA.

  
  

• Ensure alignment to SAP Clean Core principles, demonstrating released APIs, in-app extensibility, side-by-side extensions via SAP BTP, and key user extensibility for custom development.

  
  

• Drive the adoption and implementation of modern SAP programming models such as RAP and CAP to build robust, scalable cloud solutions that align with long-term business strategies.

  
  

• Collaborate with functional teams and collaborators to collect requirements, build technical specifications, and deliver solutions that meet evolving business needs.

  
  

• Ensure the team follows SAP DevOps methodologies, including setting up CI/CD pipelines for ABAP code deployment, automated testing, and using tools such as SAP ATC for quality checks and code optimization.

  
  

• Provide strategic direction and technical oversight for the development of SAP Fiori/UI5 applications, ensuring efficient user experience and alignment with SAP’s modern UI standards.

  
  

• Handle performance tuning and optimization of SAP solutions, including demonstrating SAP HANA, CDS Views, AMDP, and other sophisticated ABAP techniques.

  
  

• Mentor and develop the ABAP team, promoting knowledge sharing and standard processes for modern ABAP development within the organization.

  
  

• Collaborate with SAP partners, internal teams, and external vendors to ensure on-time delivery of solutions and alignment with organizational goals.

  
  

• Stay informed about the latest SAP technologies and methodologies, driving continuous improvement and innovation within the development team.

Basic Qualifications:

• Master’s degree with 8 - 10 years of SAP experience OR

  
  

• Bachelor’s degree with 10 - 14 years of SAP experience OR

  
  

• Diploma with 14 - 18 years of SAP experience

  
  

• Demonstrable experience handling large-scale SAP S/4HANA transformations, including migration of custom code from ECC system.

  
  

• Extensive knowledge of ABAP Objects, CDS views, AMDP, and OData services in the context of SAP S/4HANA development.

  
  

• Hands-on experience with SAP Clean Core principles, including the use of SAP Extensibility options such as APIs, in-app extensibility, and side-by-side development on SAP BTP.

  
  

• Strong proficiency in RAP and CAP models for scalable, cloud-based SAP solutions.

  
  

• Expertise in using SAP ATC (ABAP Test Cockpit), SAP DevOps tools, and automated testing frameworks to ensure code quality and compliance.

  
  

• Experience with SAP Fiori/UI5 development and demonstrating SAP Build for enhanced user experience and custom application development.

  
  

• Ability to handle end-to-end SAP project delivery, from requirement gathering, technical analysis, and craft through to implementation and post-go-live support.

  
  

• Proven leadership skills with a track record of handling and developing impactful teams. Ability to cultivate a collaborative environment, mentor team members, and drive continuous improvement in a dynamic, regulated environment.

  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in Agile/Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environments for SAP development projects.

  
  

• Solid grasp of ABAP Cloud Development and experience integrating SAP solutions with modern cloud platforms via OData and APIs.

  
  

• Exposure to SAP Workflow and Business Rules Framework, enabling process automation and custom workflow solutions.

  
  

• Knowledge of sophisticated ABAP techniques, including Native SQL, ADBC, External Views, and performance optimization on SAP HANA.

  
  

• Experience with SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), SAP Integration Suite, and SAP Business Application Studio for building and extending business processes.

  
  

Professional Certifications:

• SAP Certified Development Specialist – ABAP for SAP HANA 2.0

  
  

• SAP Certified Development Specialist – SAP Fiori Application Development

  
  

• SAP Certified Application Associate – SAP S/4HANA, ABAP Programming

  
  

Soft Skills:

• Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively handle development teams and collaborate with collaborators, ensuring alignment with business needs and technical solutions.
