Senior Manager Information Systems - Database Operations


What you will do


Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will responsible for leading and overseeing the day-to-day operations for the organization's global database infrastructure. This role would ensure high availability, performance, and security by managing a team of database engineers, developing operational strategies, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining alignment with business objectives in a sophisticated and constantly evolving technology landscape.


The ideal candidate will have a consistent record of leadership in technology-driven database environments and has a passion for fostering innovation and excellence in the biotechnology industry. Additionally, collaboration with multi-functional and global teams is required to ensure seamless integration and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will have a good background in database operational support, coupled with leadership and transformation experience. This role demands the ability to drive and deliver against key organizational critical initiatives, develop a collaborative environment, and deliver high-quality results in a matrixed organizational structure. Please note, this is an onsite role based in Hyderabad.


Roles & Responsibilities:


  • Lead and develop a successful team of database engineers through recruitment, performance management, and career development


  • Establish and maintain operational metrics, SLAs, and performance standards


  • Monitor and lead enterprise database infrastructure


  • Lead incident response and problem management for critical database issues


  • Lead all aspects of implementation and maintenance of database security policies and patching procedures


  • Responsible for the 24/7 operations aspects of Database operations at all Amgen locations and Optimize resource allocation and shift coverage.


  • Ensure database compliance with regulatory and security requirements


  • Generate regular reports on database performance, availability, and incident analysis


  • Deliver continuous improvement initiatives in database operations


  • Partner with business collaborators to understand and support organizational needs


What we expect of you


We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients.


Basic Qualifications:


  • Master’s degree and 8 to 10 years of experience in Database Operations, with at least 3 years in management OR


  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 to 14 years of in Database Operations, with at least 4 years in management OR


  • Diploma and 14 to 18 years of experience in Database Operations, with at least 5 years in management


  • Deep understanding of database technologies primarily Oracle and SQL Server with some PostGreSQL and MySQL databases, database security concepts as well as the underlying server and storage technologies


  • Knowledge of database monitoring and management systems


  • Experience with service level management and operational metrics


  • Solid background in database operations strategy and planning


  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)


  • Understanding of ITIL frameworks and standard methodologies


  • Knowledge of database automation tools and practices


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Understanding of ITIL frameworks and standard methodologies


  • DevOps, S/W development and scripting


  • Experience with SAN and NAS storage


Professional Certifications:


  • Management certifications (PMP, ITIL) (preferred)


  • Database certifications (OCP, MCP) for technical credibility (preferred)

Shift Information: This position is an onsite role and may require working during later hours to align with business hours. Candidates must be willing and able to work outside of standard hours as required to meet business needs.
