TheRole:Senior Manager, Data Governance



The Team: 



S&P Global Sustainable 1 is a corporate division of S&P Global which is focused on ESG data, analytics and solutions. The Data Management team sits within the Data organization of Sustainable 1 and is responsible for ensuring that data on the products is of the highest quality. Members of this team need to interact very closely with ESG research, technology, analytics and client service teams to ensure data flows are accurate, methodology and rules are correctly applied, and deliveries are made to clients in a timely and accurate manner. 



This is an individual contributor role. We are seeking a Data Lead who will execute a data strategy to ensure data & analytics are integrated into client facing delivery channels. This role will involve collaborating with project teams to deliver on key initiatives and contributing to the design and implementation of data governance frameworks and best-in-class practices/workflows for our strategic data platform.



Responsibilities & Impact:



  • Manage projects focused on automating and optimizing recurring processes, from initiation to closure, ensuring timely client information delivery. This includes defining project scope, developing detailed project plans, and tracking progress against milestones.  



  • Collaborate with stakeholders (including technical, business, and client teams) to facilitate seamless information updates and efficient workflows. This involves conducting regular meetings, communicating project updates, and managing expectations. 



  • Able to understand and articulate business requirements in the context of designing solutions and automating processes, collaborating closely with the data collection tools & automation group.



  • Work with dataset leads to lay out a roadmap to successfully implement governance around tools/technologies, resources, and processes. Ensure that the Data Management teams create and update data flow diagrams regularly to stay current and to provide transparency around data lineage.



  • Work with the client services team to resolve any time-sensitive data delivery concerns and provide inputs on the long-term delivery strategy 



  • Work on the identification and deployment of appropriate tools for Data Governance. Set up operational processes for governance to ensure data usage and deliveries are as expected



  • Create and maintain data catalogues and dictionaries to account for various datasets within S1



  • Represent data team in S1 wide data projects, as product owner where applicable 



  • Work hand in hand with our compliance, contracts, and legal teams to ensure a thorough understanding of the regulatory and/or contractual obligations related to the usage of data. Additionally, foster strong partnerships with Product, Technology, Research & Methodology teams.



  • Lead the creation, maintenance, and monitoring of the data governance policies, processes, procedures, and playbook(s) for guiding the data management aspects of the Sustainable 1 Data Platform



  • Collaborate with data stewards to address technical debt impacting workflows and data delivery, ensuring alignment with best practices.



What We’re Looking For:



Basic Qualifications: 




  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in engineering or finance 



  • 10+ years of Data Management/Governance/Project Management experience within the financial industry   



  • Experience working with database structures and data analysis 



  • Comfort with SQL/Oracle with the ability to writecomplex queries



  • Hands-on experience in programming using Python is Plus



  • Experience working within the Agile framework 



  • Self-starter that can work independently with little supervision, and lead teams to a common goal 



  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to challenging the status quo.



  • Juggle and lead multiple projects 



  • Collaboration across global teams and with multiple functional roles including technology, product management, business operations and client services.



Preferred experience/skills:



  • Data Governance



  • Knowledge of the Databricks technology platform 



  • Product/Data delivery experience within the ESG space 



  • Ability to query databases to retrieve information, build validations and analyze data 



  • Experience managing product releases for a large organization with a diverse client base.
