Job Title:Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Enterprise Computing Engineering)


Group Name: IT Services / Infrastructure


Purpose of the Role:


The primary function of the Senior Infrastructure Engineer role-holder is to deploy, own, manage and optimise Atkins Realis’s Enterprise Computing Engineering platform including server infrastructure (both physical & virtual), storage infrastructure (primarily NetApp), backup and disaster recovery solutions and other services including, Windows Server imaging, datacentres, HPE server hardware, DFS, VMWare, SCCM, SCOM, Commvault and Citrix. The responsibilities include requirements gathering, technical delivery, documentation and   handover to operational teams including assisting and mentoring the less experienced members of the team. It will also include participating in RFP reviews, standards definition, roadmaps and other technical governance to support both Infrastructure-specific, wider IT Services and business objectives.


This role would be suited to an individual who has in depth experience with technical/infrastructure deployment in an enterprise-class environment.  We are looking for someone who can be dynamic, demonstrate ownership and a ‘can-do’ attitude.


Key Deliverables/Responsibilities:


  • Technically manage and implement project work from inception, deployment to handover to operational teams.
  • Deploy/build/manage EC infrastructure components including NetApp storage arrays, HPE server hardware and other datacentre components.
  • Deploy/build/manage EC solutions including vSphere, Windows Server, Citrix, SCCM, SCOM, Commvault and Zerto amongst others.  
  • Responsible for key document outputs within the team, including but not limited to: HLD, LLD, Process runbooks, standards definition and roadmaps.
  • Technical input and review of RFI, RFP and other technology/platform selection processes with overall responsibility for the Enterprise Computing content.
  • Mentorship of more junior team members both inside and outside of the EC team and technical management of deployment resources.
  • Review and approval of change requirements, proposals, and designs for compliance to principles and standards.
  • Analyse the current infrastructure environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement.
  • Facilitate the evaluation and selection of software product standards, as well as the design of standard software configurations.
  • Prior experience in a role for an organisation of similar size and scope is required.

Essential Technical Requirements


To be successful in this role we would expect the candidate to have experience with:


  • Microsoft management and monitoring systems (SCOM & SCCM) OR Storage platforms (NetApp) including block, fibre channel, NAS, CIFS and iSCSI.
  • Backup Technologies (Commvault and Rubrik).
  • Cloud computing platforms, including Microsoft Azure Enterprise Scale/ Landing Zone
  • Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory platform (all versions, including current).
  • Security patching and vulnerability management.
  • Group policy.
  • DFS.
  • DNS.
  • DHCP.
  • Networking fundamentals.
  • Experience with working with other teams in a global organisation
  • Service Now and reporting systems.
  • ITIL processes and practices.

The candidate must also be able to demonstrate experience with some of the following:


  • Virtual Apps & Desktops (Citrix).
  • Citrix Netscaler/ADC appliances.
  • Scripting.
  • Linux (Redhat).
  • Operating system imaging and application deployment.
  • VMWare vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization suites
  • HPE Server and Synergy blade data-centre solutions.
  • Disaster Recovery technology, products and services (Zerto).

Behavioral Competencies:


  • Proven experience of delivering process efficiencies and improvements.
  • Clear and fluent English (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to build and maintain efficient working relationships with remote teams.
  • Demonstrate ability to take ownership of and accountability for relevant products and services.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and complete your own work, whilst remaining a team player.
  • Willingness to engage with and work in other technologies.
