Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a dynamic, international non-governmental organisation. We work with people affected by violent conflicts to enhance their security and dignity through Unarmed Civilian Protection (UCP). We work to reduce violence, protect civilians in countries affected by violent conflict and its aftermath, and help transform the world’s response to conflict situations.
OVERVIEW
NP has been granted its registration as a national NGO under the name Nurani Perdamaian Indonesia with country office based in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. Since November 2022, NP has been working with local partners in implementing a project on transitional justice and reconciliation and promotion of human rights in 17 districts of Aceh funded by the Netherlands. Collaborating with the Ministry of Religious Affairs, in 2024 NP has trained more than 300 religious instructors nationwide to promote tolerance and violent extremism early detection mechanisms. NP will continue to work in Indonesia to increase safety and security of civilian, preventing/transforming violent extremism, protection of minority at risk of violence including the refugees, religious or ethnic minority, and other vulnerable minority groups.
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Country Manager or Head of Finance and Operations (whichever is applicable), the Senior Finance Officer (SFO) will be responsible for ensuring efficient financial management and accounting for Nurani Perdamaian Indonesia
The SFO's duties will include monitoring project expenditures, preparing financial reports and conducting audits, forecasting expenditures, performing financial analysis, and maintaining project accounts, including books of accounts, banking, and financial operations. The Senior Finance Officer will also ensure compliance with Nonviolent Peaceforce's financial policies and procedures, as well as local government regulations and donor requirements.
This position is for 3 months with a possibility of extension.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND ACCOUNTING
- Ensure sound financial management of the country office, including timely accounting and reconciliations, budget monitoring and analysis, and forecasting.
- Ensure financial transactions are properly recorded in Accounting software (posted to QuickBooks system) and coded in line with NP’s chart of accounts and donor project codes.
- Responsible for the preparation of timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports/ Budget versus Actuals (BvA).
- Ensure that any payments comply with NP’s Procurement Policies and Procedures.
- Ensure all payments are adequately supported by appropriate documentation as per NP and Donor’s rules and regulations.
- Maintain strong internal control over disbursements and accounting for the project funds and ensure that payments are made as per the budget allocated for each project and expenditure category.
- Responsible for the monthly reconciliations such as intercompany, banks, accounts payables, and receivables accounts.
- Monitors advances and liquidations by staff and subgrantees (partners).
- Responsible for the preparation of payroll and ensuring that statutory deductions are remitted to the relevant authorities.
- Maintains proper filings of original and hard copies of accounting documents.
- Provide support to NPID on all finance matters, including budget and budget revision support relevant to NPID programs.
2. CONSORTIA FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND COORDINATION
- Collect and review subgrantees' financial reports, including liquidation reports, receipts, bank reconciliations, and other required monthly financial documents, ensuring they are accurate, complete, timely, and compliance. Communicate to partners any discrepancies or missing information
- Record the partners’ transactions into the accounting system and process monthly reconciliations against the partner’s liquidation reports & receipts.
- Closely monitor subgrants to ensure that expenses charged by subgrantees stay within the approved budget
- Maintain organized scanned and hard copies of partners’ files (contracts, reports, receipts etc.)
- Conduct monitoring visits for financial reviews or audits of subgrantees
3. DONOR REPORTING
- Track expenditure of all grants and prepare reports in the agreed format/template, as well as ensure compliance with donor rules and regulations such as reporting deadlines, currency conversion, eligibility of cost, and other donor reporting-related matters.
4. AUDIT
- Act as Finance Focal point for internal audits, annual and project audits.
- Prepare responses to audit queries and assist in the implementation of rectification measures for the audit findings
5. OTHERS
- Lead efforts to train and support non-finance staff in understanding and adhering to NP’s financial procedures and guidelines
- Liaise closely with HR to ensure timely and accurate completion of time sheets
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the Head of Finance and Operations or Country Manager as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
- University degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related fields. CPA or equivalent professional qualifications are highly desirable.
- At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting, or administration within an international NGO or development context.
- Experience working with financial systems (QuickBooks) and knowledge of accounting principles, especially in relation to NGO financial reporting and compliance.
- Experience in finance with a humanitarian non-governmental organization
- Experience interpreting and applying accounting standards and procedures, applicable country rules and regulations, and grants management.
- Experience in managing multi-currency operations and understanding of donor regulations and reporting requirements
- Field experience in emergency situations is required
- Experience working in multicultural environments and with diverse teams
- Fluent in English
- Commitment to the humanitarian principles (humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence) and the work of Nonviolent Peaceforce
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in an INGO or similar organisation.
- Expertise/in-depth knowledge on QuickBooks (Desktop and Online) software would be given preference
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification.
- Local resident of Jakarta or nearby cities

- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively in English, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated attention to detail; strong focus on accuracy and organization in financial documentation and reporting
- Ability to resolve financial issues with proactive solutions and approach challenges with flexibility and adaptability
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and accounting software such as QuickBooks.
- Ability to set priorities
- Demonstrated ability to effectively process and consolidate information and documentation from multiple locations
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues, donors, and external partners
- Skills in budgeting and budgetary control
