Senior Engineer, Unix


251202 – Programmer


1.0 Role Profile:


The Senior Engineer, Unix is a key member of the Unix Engineering/Solutions team, concentrating on delivering new automated functions, crafting a more robust platform in each iteration, and working with the dev teams to improve their time to deliver new business solutions.


Main Role:


  • Develop new services/solutions by building responsibly and incrementally.
  • Automate.
  • Familiar with Infrastructure as a Code.
  • Develop and refine tools, procedures and workflows that build consistency and stability for our internal operations and customer experience.
  • Discuss ideas at a high level and use your technical ability to follow through and implement them, go beyo and push boundaries to deliver excellence.
  • Review and research potential new products, communicate them to the wider team to highlight their potential.
  • Be a champion for projects - Acting as owners of the initiatives, leading by data and not by theory.
  • Be ready to work in a fluid environment where requirements and priorities may change at short notice.
  • Be prepared to be the cause of that change and automate more.
  • Continually think about the root causes of issues, and where pivotal, stop and re-evaluate a project with the team to ensure it doesn’t just address the symptoms of a problem.
  • Ensure that projects move ahead in a timely fashion.
  • Coordinate with different teams to ensure that work is achieved efficiently.
  • Document and communicate your work (Documentation as a Code).
  • Appreciate high quality code and have pride in your own.
  • Enjoy using communication and partnership tools for maximum efficiency.
  • Produce documentation on development work that can be used for funding.
  • Effectively blend with other departments to highlight the goals of new and existing projects and their ongoing progress.

Required Skills & Experience:


  • 10+ Years of strong Unix/RHEL Sysadmin and development skills - must have
  • Knowledge and Understanding of IT Infrastructure
  • Strong Scripting (Shell, Python) Experience - must have
  • Knowledge of Data Serialisation Languages (JSON, YAML)
  • Shown Expertise in Automation and Config Management Skills (Ansible) - must have
  • Good knowledge of Provisioning Tools (Terraform, Red Hat Satellite)
  • Shown Expertise in defining standards of Unix/Linux Clustering Solution (VCS, Pacemaker)
  • Good in CICD Tools (Gitlab)
  • Knowledge of security tools (Vault, BeyondTrust)
  • Knowledge of Databases (MySQL, Postgres)
  • Experience working with automation and monitoring tools (Rundeck, Big Fix, Datadog, Nagios)
  • Experience with version control software (Git, GitLab, BitBucket)
  • Strong Knowledge and Understanding of Networking Protocols and Technologies
  • Knowledge of the web hosting industry and associated technologies. (Apache, NGINX, IIS)
  • Good with partnership and open communication
  • A positive demeanor and the desire to learn Desirable Attributes

Desirable:


  • Experience with multi-cloud environments (AWS.GC/Azure)
  • Experience with VMware technologies (vSphere, vCenter, vRA, vRO)
  • Experience with containers technologies (Openshift, Kubernetes)
