Project Overview:


Bechtel is seeking to expand its decades long relationship with Reliance by providing Project Management Consultant (PMC) Services and Engineering Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) Services for offsites and utilities (OSBL) for a multi-billion-dollar upgrade / expansion of existing petrochemical facilities in India. Reliance plans to augment its existing petrochemical facilities in Dahej, Gujarat, and Nagothane, Maharashtra, to expand its PVC capacity. The PMC Services will be led out of India with personnel deployed in Mumbai region, the project sites in India, as well as several key contractor locations across India. The EPCM Services for OSBL will be led out of Bechtel’s India offices.


The positions on this project will start as assignment in Navi Mumbai, Dahej or Nagothane.


Job Summary:


Structural Engineer with Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering and 16+ years of experience on basic and detailed design and project co-ordination of civil/structural works on Infrastructure, Energy and M&M projects. Should have executed at least two, medium to large size EPC/FEED projects, as CSA Engineering Group Supervisor in an engineering office or consultancy of repute. Experience in PMC role in Substation and Transmission project will be preferred. Should have a broad knowledge of precedents and latest trends in structural engineering, the principles and practices of related technical areas and of collaborating with other technical disciplines. Candidate should have exposure to Indian, US, Euro and other foreign codes/standards and local practices. Proficiency in use of industry standard software including Structural and Finite Element Analysis package such as STAAD Pro / ANSYS / GTStrudl / SAP / SACS/PLS-Poles/PLS-Tower etc. is essential.


Major Responsibilities:


  • Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals, design criteria, specifications, budget and schedules for projects of varying complexity.
  • Reviews bid analyses and makes recommendation.
  • Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
  • Review of all civil and structural drawings and design calculations for substations and Transmission Lines.
  • Review analysis and design of Substation Gantry structures (Tower & beams).
  • Review analysis and design of Transmission line towers and its foundations.
  • Review design of outdoor switchyard foundations such as tower foundation, transformer foundation, equipment foundations, bus duct supports etc.
  • Review analysis and design of control room building, guard house, car parking, boundary wall, roads, pump house etc.
  • Review design of DG foundation, cable trench, drains, roads, grade slab, boundary wall, retaining wall etc.
  • Maintaining good working relationships with OEM’s, material suppliers, contractors, and any others that affect the quality, schedule and cost of projects.
  • Creating Purchase requisition, Coordinate with internal & external stakeholders to book invoice of vendor.
  • Reviews and checks work of junior team members and provides input for their performance evaluation.
  • Participate in regular meeting and corresponding with Clients.
  • Strong logical and problem-solving skills, client service orientation.
  • Self-starter with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written to convey effectively with internal team members and external clients.

Education and Experience Requirements:


  • 16 - 20 years of relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 4-year degree from an accredited college in Civil Engineering
  • Preference will be given to the candidates with Master’s degree in relevant subject.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 


  • Possesses a broad understanding of the major design engineering deliverables.
  • Plans, conducts and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work.
  • Performs work that involves stipulated engineering practice but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of stipulated materials and/or difficult coordination requirements.
  • Performs work using Standard Application Programs and appropriate computer aided design and computer aided engineering (CAD and CAE) tools.
  • Coordinates engineering effort in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups.
  • Understanding of engineering planning and control methods including computerized methods.
  • Understanding of the roles played by other disciplines like Plant Layout and Piping, Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural, Geotech and Construction etc.
  • Understanding of industry or regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the engineering discipline.
  • Experience in leading a team of engineers and designers in EPC and/or big FEED projects.
  • Capable of planning, assigning, guiding and monitoring work of the team members.
  • Capable of assuring quality of design and associated deliverables.
  • Experience in design of Substation and Transmission Line.
