Role Summary/Purpose


Senior Engineer – Reliability Solutions will own solutions management for the field reliability issues for Wabtec Locomotives fleets. He / she will lead, program manage and execute on solutions development for reliability programs.


  • Solutions management for locomotive reliability issues, provide leadership to drive, execute and deliver solutions to field reported locomotive reliability issues to meet or exceed fleet reliability goals.
  • Support fleet reliability and services interactions; close engagement with field service team and cross functional interaction across engineering, supply chain, manufacturing.
  • Facilitate implementation of reliability improvement solution on locomotive by planning material movement and readiness for implementation.
  • Periodic management review and reporting of field reliability issues

Key Responsibilities:


  • Assess and root-cause investigate various field reliability issues. Be responsible for and perform hands-on field loco level investigation of various issues to establish root-cause of reported issues.
  • Develop containment/immediate-term solution for reported field issues. Implement short-term as well as long-term solutions for field failures. Deliver on field reliability goals & risks
  • Drive and track international material movement process, Track/drive project ROI, Consult or lead for launch, scope, reporting, Service Readiness.
  • Create implementation plans and validate execution with GLO/GSO: supply chain capacity, material usage rates, eServices, customer acceptance
  • Support and coordinate with interfacing organizations such as manufacturing, sourcing, services, global engineering, and systems engineering.
  • Execute reliability solutions development through Wabtec services tollgate process and deliver the same to customer.
  • Cost justifications, validations and approvals: FLY reduction, cost of Quality, ROI, commercial interests, Track solution effectiveness
  • Communicate progress to all levels of the organization, systematically track deck of all reported field reliability issues through various stages till solutions development and delivery.

Qualifications/Requirements


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited university or college with 15 to 20 years of engineering experience in either mechanical or electrical/electronics & controls. Master’s degree would be an added advantage.
  • Hands-on experience in solving reliability issues, root-cause analysis, reliability modeling methods & analysis techniques.
  • Training / Certification in reliability and Six Sigma – DMAIC, DFSS, DFR
  • At least 2 to 3 years of experience in a systems, sub-system, program, or project leadership role within engineering CoEs.
  • Willingness and ability to travel ~ 10% of the time.
  • Proven expertise in engineering requirement flow down, design and development, engineering tollgate process, NPI and requisition development, familiarity with Wabtec reliability services tollgate process

Desired Characteristics:


  • Advanced degree in mechanical engineering discipline with relevant locomotive domain experience is a plus.
  • Proven ability to drive/embrace change & drive innovation.
  • Proven problem solving, analytical skills & new idea generation.
  • Good interpersonal, communication and organizational integration skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes
