Job Description

We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Lead Process Engineer to be based in Kolkata that is ready to provide solutions for our mineral processing, Hydrometallurgy and refining projects. Someone with a strong base metals and Mineral background is essential for this role.


Reporting to a Process Manager, he needs to lead brownfield studies/projects and/or provide process design support on larger studies/projects. The position has close interaction with other affiliate offices as Focal Point for all M&M Projects.


 To manage and execute the delivery of best practice process design and associated services in designated studies, projects, and consulting services, in alignment with wood organisational objectives and client requirements. To provide corporate oversight in terms of technical quality of designs globally Provide technical leadership for a designated area of activity within the Process Group, this includes technology development. 


Skilled in managing project activities from conceptualization to execution including process circuit design, plant designing, equipment selection, process optimization, procurement, technical specifications, stage inspections, progress monitoring, site management, Supervision and erection ensuring compliance with the Quality, Time, and Cost Management.


Responsibilities: 


You will be responsible for:


• Completing conceptual and/or detailed process engineering designs of new or revamp/additions to existing facilities. • Developing design basis documents (process design criteria, mass, energy, and water balances etc.) and reports. 


• Design, supervise metallurgical test work programs and analysing results to develop/optimize flowsheet. 


• Conceptualizing flowsheet, Review of Metallurgical test work, design development, Process Simulations, Mass & Water balance, Utility Summary PFD, equipment selection i.e., Cyclone, Pumps, Dewatering screens, Tanks Valves, Crusher, feeders, sand washing plant and all other associated equipment, working on process design criteria, basic & detail engineering deliverables, Vendor support etc. 


• Perform Hydraulic Calculations for circuits (Slurry service and non-slurry service – Newtonian and Non-Newtonian fluid both) 


• Plant auditing, debottlenecking, and optimization • Carrying out calculations, design development and process simulations including providing specifications for process equipment and instrumentation. 


• Creating, reviewing, and revising process deliverables such as PFDs, P&IDs, line lists, control philosophies and data sheets. 


• Perform Hydraulic Calculations for circuits (Slurry service and non-slurry service – Newtonian and Non-Newtonian fluid both) 


• Preparation of PSV datasheets, cause and effect diagram, process control narrative, Sequence Interlock Diagrams, Operating manual / procedure. Lead in HAZOP and other safety studies. 


• Preparing Operating Cost estimate and aid in the development of Capital Cost estimate. 


• Interfacing and coordination between other discipline engineers and project management staff. 


• Reviewing and applying relevant standards, regulations, codes, and guidelines applicable for task, identify areas of deviation or concern. 


• Responsible for working within and following company work procedures, process technical guidelines, quality assurance plans, safety regulations and specific customer/project procedures. 


• Authenticating any of the above process deliverables per the customer requirements.


• Participation in HAZOP and/or HAZID studies. 


• Operation/plant experience is considered an asset. 


• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment. 


• Demonstrated commitment to quality and continuous learning. 


Technical and Industry Experience: 


• Experience in base metals metallurgy with emphasis on all major base metals smelting and refining technologies. 


• Strong computer skills, proficient with MS Office software. 


• Experience in using METSIM, SysCAD, HSC, and other process simulation software is considered an asset. 


• Ability to deliver best practice plant design, with emphasis on cost-effective engineering. 


• Ability to recognise the commercial implications in study, project and proposal execution. 


• Ability to manage risk during the design process consistent with technical and commercial requirements of the study or project. 


• Ability to interact with clients and other teams in a positive manner. 


• Ability to manage activities on or ahead of schedule and on or below budget. 


• Ability to communicate process requirements to other members of the study, project, or proposal team. 


• Ability to prepare and deliver oral and written presentations for study and project reports and proposals. 


• An understanding of strategic and change management and an ability to participate in these processes. 


• Ability to provide leadership and direction to process engineers within a designated area of expertise. 


• Ability to maintain an in-depth knowledge of technological developments within a designated area of activity. 


• Accountable for ensuring all process designs meet best practice safety practices using Wood policies and appropriate risk assessment tools such as hazop and risk reviews. 


• Accountable for championing the development of new technologies which give Wood a competitive edge. 


• Accountable to ensure delivery of process services to designated study, project, and proposal teams on or ahead of schedule and on or under budget. 


• Accountable to manage the process of preparation of designated study, project and proposal documents and designs to ensure quality and accuracy of information. 


• Assist Business Development including preparing proposals, participating in client meetings, developing client relationships, and reviewing new business proposals. 


• Actively manage clients to ensure a win:win outcome whenever possible 


• Provide guidance / advice to other team members (within process group and Wood in general) as required to ensure the best outcomes.


 • Maintain and improve technical knowledge management systems. • Assist the Process Manager with the development of process warrantees and risk management.

• Read, understand, and comply with the HSSE policies arrangements/procedures and rules as issued.

• Report to immediate supervisor all incidents, which have or could result in personal injury or environmental damage. 


Quality Responsibilities: 


• Read, understand, and comply with the Quality Policy, procedures, and work instructions relevant to your role and inform your immediate line manager if you are unable to do so. 


• Participate and cooperate with internal/external audit process as required. 


• Participate, cooperate, and provide input in the Continuous Improvement Procedure and associated processes, especially regarding addressing Business System Improvement Requests (BSIR) generated because of Client Feedback or internal and external audits. Participate in Quality initiatives and suggest modifications or improvements to current procedures if required. Educational Qualification 


A Bachelor or Masters degree in Metallurgy, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering required.
