Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities


• Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.


  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
  • Identifies discrepancies in results.
  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
  • Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
  • Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.
  • Leads and mentors junior engineers, fostering their professional development and technical skills.
  • Develops and implements advanced design solutions for complex PHE systems, considering factors such as energy efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery, quality control, and client satisfaction.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including architects, structural engineers, and electrical engineers, to ensure integrated design solutions.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards and codes.
  • Drives innovation in PHE design by researching and implementing new technologies and methodologies.
  • Conducts peer reviews of designs and calculations to maintain high standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Participates in business development activities, including proposal writing and client presentations.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or related field; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in PHE (Plumbing, Heating, and Fire Protection) design, with at least 3 years in a senior role
  • Comprehensive knowledge of fire fighting systems including hydrant systems, sprinkler systems, fire zoning, fire extinguishers, and clean agent systems
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and other relevant design software
  • Strong understanding of NFPA codes, ASHRAE standards, and local building codes
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong project management abilities, including budget and schedule management
  • Effective communication and leadership skills to guide junior engineers
  • Experience with energy-efficient and sustainable design practices
  • Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) processes
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and their integration with fire protection systems
  • Ability to perform complex engineering calculations and analysis
  • Experience in writing technical specifications and reports
  • Willingness to stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends

Preferred Qualifications


  • LEED AP certification
  • Experience with international projects and global fire protection standards
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene principles
  • Familiarity with risk assessment and hazard analysis techniques
  • Experience in mentoring junior engineers and fostering team development
