Position Summary


Hardware (Circuit/PCB) design Engineer is responsible for designing analog/digital circuits and developing printed circuit boards, generating drawings using EDA (Electronic design automation) tools for schematic, assembly, and fabrication drawings, designing layouts for hi-speed, multi-layer boards and assisting Engineering with testing and validation of complete system functionality.


Major responsibilities:


  • Generate high level concept and functional block diagrams based on requirements
  • Design analog/digital circuits with a proper selection of electrical/electronic components
  • Design Mixed Signal and High-speed PCBs
  • Develop analog and mixed signal circuits through prototyping and/or simulations and run trade off analysis to optimize power consumption, physical board area / instrumentation density and cost.
  • Generate theory of operation for circuit and define circuit test strategy including test setup, test limits and guide firmware and software engineers to develop supporting firmware and software.
  • Design, develop, and test power electronics circuits and power conversion systems, including PCB layout and simulation
  • Create PCB footprints per IPC standards and schematic symbols.
  • Design layouts for hi-speed, multi-layer boards.
  • Create Gerber and assembly drawings
  • Maintain PCB file version control
  • Interact with global Engineers to accomplish design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and design for test (DFT) according to industry standards.
  • Support harness preparation and prototype build
  • PCB Test plan preparation.
  • Support testing and validation of complete system functionality
  • Engineering document preparation

Experience/Skills:


  • Experience in High Speed, Mixed signal design and Power board design.
  • Proficient in using EDA tools, preferably Altium.
  • Strong analog circuit design knowledge, both complex IC level and discrete component/transistor level
  • Ability to understand complex design concepts and be able to communicate ideas to cross-functional team
  • Ability to understand engineering, manufacturing and customer requirements and translate to actual product design
  • Capable of circuit simulation using LTspice/Pspice/PSIM.
  • Power Electronics background including: AC/DC, DC/AC and DC/DC power conversion, DC/DC power supply, Energy storage
  • Basic understanding of power supply topologies, drive circuits, PWM control, feedback, DSP and FPGA-based controls for various high power and pulsed power applications
  • Familiarity with semiconductor device technologies
  • Ability to plan large PCB designs and estimate efforts.
  • Experience in board level communication protocols
    • SPI, I2C, UART, JTAG, MODBUS, TCP/IP etc.
  • Hands on experience in schematic capture, schematic symbol creation.
  • Hands on experience in Footprint creation, PCB floor Planning and layout routing.
  • Experience in routing rules creation, signal integrity optimization, Power Supply board layout designing with knowledge of signal Isolation.
  • Ability to do single, double, and multilayer PCBs.
  • Creating and checking the Gerber files in EDA tools.
  • Good knowledge of PCB process, DFM and DFA requirements.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC and Thermal aspects for PCB.
  • Should have sufficient knowledge of PCB industry standards.
  • Working experience with high-speed digital interfaces such as Ethernet and USB, ADC, LVDS, Microcontroller
  • Knowledge of basic signal integrity and power integrity knowledge.
  • Must be well versed in electrical engineering, and systems engineering

Skills and Education:


  • Bachelor / Master’s degree in Electronics/Power Electronics
  • 3.0 GPA minimum required
  • 5-9 years professional experience
  • Firm grasp of engineering fundamentals.
  • Self-motivated, willing to take initiative, able to function effectively in independent and team-based situations.
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment for extended duration, coordinate testing with lab staff and reviewing results.
  • Must be adept at report writing and presenting technical information to a wide audience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required with good interpersonal skills, able to express concepts and ideas with clarity.
