The Opportunity


In this Senior Data Engineer position, you will report to the Section Lead - Data & Analytics and be based in Pune, India. This role involves collaborating with multi disciplinary and multi cultural teams to build structured, high-quality data solutions, with the potential to lead technical squads. Your work will support Roche’s mission: to do now what patients need next.


Key Responsibilities


  • Design, develop, and optimize ETL/ELT data pipelines to support data analytics.
  • Build and maintain data models and transform data using appropriate transformation tools.
  • Develop and implement integrations with other systems and platforms.
  • Supervise and manage data flows to handle upstream changes, ensuring seamless adaptation downstream.
  • Implement and manage APIs and data streaming platforms for efficient data processing.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for data pipelines and related processes.
  • Create and maintain logical and physical models of datasets and applications.
  • Enhance data accessibility and search-ability across the organization.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines for data workflows and infrastructure.
  • Ensure robust security practices for data access and handling.
  • Lead automation scripts and tools to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with business leaders and functional teams to align data solutions with business goals.
  • Promote a data-driven culture and lead impactful data engineering projects.
  • Mentor and guide teams, fostering a collaborative environment and promoting best practices in data engineering and security.
  • Explore innovative methods for building, processing, and analyzing data to deliver business insights.

Who You Are


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematical Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of proven experience in data engineering, data analysis, or data quality assurance.
  • Proven experience in Data Governance/Data Security/Data Safety, with a deep understanding of best practices for ensuring data compliance, privacy, and integrity.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with Product Owners to understand business requirements, translate them into technical solutions, and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Hands-on experience with Cloud Data Solutions (Snowflake preferred) and familiarity with Cloud-based Data Solution Architectures, Data Engineering, ETL tools/platforms, and data modeling practices.
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, SQL, and database management systems.
  • Expertise in data pipeline automation, data integration, and solid understanding of RDBMS concepts and database design.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance, data quality activities, and DevOps/DataOps practices, especially in data operations.
  • Proficiency in CI/CD tools.
  • Experience with Inmuta and Monte Carlo is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills, with the ability to work across cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • A passion for new technologies and innovative experimentation.
