What a Senior Associate Counsel in Legal does at Visa:
Visa is seeking a talented business/commercial lawyer to join our expanding legal team supporting our India and South Asia operations. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse legal matters, including commercial contracts, corporate issues, product matters, marketing agreements, and routine legal inquiries. Reporting to the Senior Managing Counsel for India and South Asia, the ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of commercial business law and management, coupled with exceptional drafting skills. We require someone with solid technical legal expertise, good commercial/legal risk judgment, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, challenging, yet rewarding environment.
The successful candidate will be a strong legal advisor and commercial lawyer rolled into one, demonstrating excellent communication and analytical skills. Self-motivation and a willingness to work diligently are essential. While prior experience in the payments sector is not mandatory, the candidate must be eager to learn about Visa's business model and the payments industry. The Senior Associate Counsel has responsibility for enabling Visa’s business and protecting Visa, through drafting agreements, assisting with negotiations, and advising on diverse areas of law for strategic partnerships, commercial transactions, technology and intellectual property-related matters as well as daily operations of the business.

What you will need:
We are seeking a talented and ambitious legal professional to join our team, bringing fresh perspectives and a strong willingness to learn about the dynamic world of payments and Visa's business landscape. As a candidate, you should have:
• Law degree with strong academic credentials and 4-8 years of relevant experience in a top-tier law firm or in-house MNC legal department
• Solid understanding of commercial business law and corporate governance
• Exceptional drafting skills with attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality work
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with good commercial/legal risk judgment
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Adaptability and willingness to learn about Visa's business model and the payments industry
• Prior experience in the payments or financial services sector is a plus, but not required
