Job Description

The position of Sustainability officer will be responsible for India Org, as well as support Global organization for driving projects in the area of Sustainability

Responsibilities / Tasks


Daily Inspections and Audits


  • Conduct daily walk-through inspections of the shop floor, warehouses, and production areas to identify unsafe conditions (e.g., equipment malfunctions, blocked emergency exits, fire hazards).
  • Check and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) by all employees and contractors.
  • Inspect safety signs, emergency lighting, first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, and safety showers for functionality and accessibility.

Safety Permits and Documentation


  • Review and issue daily work permits for high-risk jobs (e.g., hot work, confined space entry, electrical maintenance).
  • Maintain a log of safety inspections, incident reports, and near-miss events.
  • Ensure daily records are kept up-to-date, including safety checklists, permits, and compliance forms.

Monitoring and Reporting


  • Monitor safety equipment, ensuring that machinery guards, ventilation systems, and hazardous material storage units are functioning correctly.
  • Compile daily safety reports detailing observations, areas of concern, and corrective measures.
  • Track and report daily safety KPIs such as accidents, incidents, near misses, and safety audits.

Regular Training and Toolbox Talks


  • Conduct daily toolbox talks with teams at the beginning of shifts to discuss safety updates, review recent incidents, and reinforce best practices.
  • Provide on-the-job safety training for new employees, contractors, and temporary staff.

Accident Reporting and Emergency Response


  • Respond immediately to any accidents or injuries on-site, coordinating first-aid responses and emergency medical services when required.
  • Manage first-aid facilities and ensure that first responders are properly trained and available.
  • Fill out incident reports and ensure proper documentation of injuries, near misses, and unsafe conditions.

Hazardous Materials and Waste Management


  • Monitor the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous substances, ensuring compliance with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Ensure that spill kits and emergency response equipment are available and ready for use.
  • Conduct regular checks on storage areas for compliance with environmental regulations.

Collaboration with Maintenance Team


  • Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure that all equipment is in safe working condition.
  • Report any machinery defects or maintenance issues and ensure repairs are carried out promptly.

Safety Drills and Emergency Planning


  • Plan and execute fire drills and other emergency simulations (e.g., chemical spills, gas leaks) to ensure staff are aware of the correct emergency response.
  • Review and update emergency exit routes and evacuation plans regularly.


Interaction with External Authorities


  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies and auditors during safety audits and inspections.
  • Prepare and present Monthly safety updates to the plant Head.

Incident Investigation


  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses.
  • Analyze root causes, develop action plans, and implement corrective and preventive measures (CAPA).

Fire Alarm and Pump Room AMC Monitoring Responsibilities:


  • Ensure that the AMC (Annual Maintenance Contract) with the service provider for both the fire alarm system and pump room is current and that the vendor performs regular maintenance as per the contract.
  • Ensure monthly/quarterly inspections are carried out on time by the service provider and internal teams. (pumps, valves, panels, etc.).
  • Keep detailed records of all service reports, maintenance logs, and performance evaluations from AMC providers.

Your Profile / Qualifications


Experience:


Minimum 5 years of experience in a safety role within a manufacturing plant. Education:


Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field. Certifications:


NEBOSH, IOSH, or other relevant safety certifications. Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of safety regulations (OSHA, ISO 45001), risk management, emergency preparedness, and incident investigation. Skills: Strong observation, communication, and reporting skills; ability to lead and train a team in safety matters; proficiency in using incident management and reporting software.
