Job Purpose:


Rotating Equipment Engineer is a position that has technical and leadership responsibilities.  The role will be accountable to provide technical assurance and Rotating Eq. Expertise, Support and solutions in the life cycle management of SEIPL Rotating Equipment and Turbo-machineries.  This includes assuring sound maintenance programs, condition-Based Monitoring, Troubleshooting, Problem Solving, Failure Analysis, providing input to plant improvement activities, projects and plant changes to achieve high rotating equipment Reliability and Availability.  Thus, preventing any process safety incidents & unplanned breakdowns of the LNG regassification terminal worth of 800m$ which generates a revenue of 1billion$ per annum


The role demands high level commitment in ensuring compliance to Group HSSE standards, Local statutory requirements & implementing effective business controls framework to maintain facilities Safe, ‘Fit-for-purpose’ and capable of achieving operational excellence in receipt, storage, regassification & send out of LNG


SEIPL operates in a complex operating scenario where, the primary customer commercial demands flexibility in throughput, which needs high  plant reliability & availability for  higher capacity utilization to leverage on market opportunities. Some legacy challenges the asset  facing are  challenge of unreliable power supply from the state grid, poor Sea water quality  and reliability issues posed by aging of assets. 


SEIPL asset has also started its journey of being the “Asset of future” that will take asset to the next level of reliability and transform from a compliance to performance culture with people getting more into a CI mindset. This will require the  team to have a very high level of competence and motivation.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:


Site Rotating Technical Authority and primarily accountable for challenges faced on Rotating equipment and turbo-machineries including Design Specifications for projects, plant Changes & Turnarounds.  Provide timely feedback and recommend appropriate mitigations on Rotating Equipment Conditions and maintenance activities which have direct impact on People Safety, Process Safety and Business Site Process Focal point (SPFP) for MAC module of SEAM SPF Lead and provide Technical Expertise in detailing the engineering design, calculations, specifications and sound documentation for Rotating Equipment related projects and Plant Changes.  This includes providing technical specification for purchase of new spares, new equipments, technical evaluation of vendor proposals, liaison with contractor, mobilization of vendor representatives and documentation updates.  This involves selection of Standards (Shell DEPs, APIs, ISO standards, etc), compliance to local regulatory & legal requirement. Provide Integrated Technical Assurance on Rotating Equipment and turbo-machineries preventive and corrective maintenance programs as per AMS Process and site assurance procedures & standards, in particular ensuring HEMP and safety critical activities are performed in accordance with specific performance standards to deliver safe and reliable operations of equipment.  Provide Technical Inputs to HEMP, AIPSM, Bow-tie Studies to improve process safety culture at site.  Provide specialist advise on risk scoring and action defining during ‘Mitigate threat & opportunity’ (MTO) risk assessment SPOA (Single Point of Accountability) for compliance of SCE Rotating Equipment Performance Standards through delivery of technical proactive monitoring. SPOA to review and analyse actual operating conditions versus design limit to ensure rotating equipment integrity is maintained and optimize equipment performance. SPOA to provide timely feedback and recommend appropriate mitigating actions on critical rotating equipment conditions and maintenance activities which have direct impact on people safety, process safety and Plant Production. SPOA to review, analyse & verify New rotating equipment installation, Existing/As-Built design modifications, engineering and maintenance enhancement requirement for equipment that is not meeting the required availability in accordance with applicable codes and standards for plant improvement i.e., MOC SPOA to conduct assurance activities and ensure compliance to approved operating procedures and standards for Rotating Equipments and Turbo-machineries. Drive, develop and implement of Rotating equipment related procedures, instructions and standards through Audit and interventions (FAIR, HSSE-CF, ESP, etc) in order to improve operational, maintenance, work quality, avoiding reworks This includes supporting ESP Integrated Technical Proactive Monitoring Exercise Review, Prepare and implement Spare Part Planning, Review Spare Parts Min-Max Analysis for All Rotating Equipment/Turbo machinery at SEIPL Develop Mid to long term strategy in managing Rotating Eq. Reliability, continuously improving the maintenance plans, and managing obsolescence of parts proactively to ensure Business Continuity and Reliability.  This includes providing technical expertise to SEIPL stakeholders that require inter-discipline input in the areas of concept development, site survey, cost estimation, defining options, conducting technical evaluations & final decision making, review performance, etc. Formulate, Plan and Monitor MTO long term mitigations to improve availability and Reliability of Rotating Equipment in line with SEIPL long term business objectives.  Assist Reliability Engineer to identify & differentiate short term and long term MTO actions. SPOA to identify, evaluate and recommend key maintenance tools and technologies for Rotating Equipment by staying ahead of new diagnostics / troubleshooting, Novel technologies available to boost personal capabilities, Productivity and subsequent enhancement plant availability and Reliability Advanced Troubleshooting of Rotating Machines, this involves engagement with Principal Technical Experts, Peers, OEMs, Alternate vendors, Other Sites and surrounding industries. SPOA to manage Rotating Equipment Engineering and maintenance knowledge and lessons learnt from internal and external parties to facilitate knowledge sharing sessions with Ops & Maint. Team, Contractors, etc. Prepare/Facilitate/Participate in Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) study and review for all Rotating Equipment at SEIPL using S-RCM Approach and implement AMS Process Advanced Troubleshooting of Rotating Machines, this involves engagement with Principal Technical Experts, Peers, OEMs, Alternate vendors, Other Sites and surrounding industries. Review of Equipment Safeguarding & protective functions (Alarm/Trip Limits), Publishing related Recommendations, updation of Variable data table and co-ordination with operations & Maintenance team for compliance Identify, Evaluate, Recommend and implement leading technologies and tools to drive step change improvement in Rotating equipment and turbo-machinery management, monitoring and performance.  SPOA to define & approve requirements related to FAT/SAT/Balancing of Rotors, etc Lead Actions owner to bring down Leaks & Weeps pertaining to Rotating Assets Lead the implementation of Defect Elimination and improvement of Rotating Equipment through structured Root Cause Failure analysis and Bad Actor Management through MTO in order to sustain equipment Availability and reliability at optimum costs and to meet SEIPL KPIs Oversee Planning and scheduling for planned and unplanned Condition Monitoring tasks on Rotating Equipment. Review data collected by the Condition Monitoring officer and provide high quality diagnostic advice for corrective maintenance actions.  Review the PdM task frequency such as Oil Analysis Programme & Schedule, Requirement of special techniques such as Electrical Signature Analysis, Motion Amplification Techniques, Thermography, etc whenever required Principal Authority to ensure “SOF” for Rotating Assets post major overhaul and leading the PSSR team to ensure multidisciplinary quality Assurance.  Accountable for development of end-to-end quality Assurance checks for Rotating machines w.r.t. multi disciplines like operations, Mechanical, Instrumentation, Electrical, Civil, Procurement & Contracts, LAB, etc.  Provide input and justification for yearly as well as long term budget requirements for rotating machines. Establish, monitor and control annual costs for rotating equipment. Provide specialist technical support/operational expert input into new projects/Mini Project for design, installation, acceptance testing, commissioning and evaluations of operability and maintainability of rotating equipment.  Defining Assurance control point for new projects and existing facilities Undertake Special Assignments or tasks as directed by Engineering Manager & Leadership team of SEIPL. Provide Support to Leadership and delivery of site governance element of Goal Zero, People, Reliability, Innovation, Cost, Project & Turn-around.

Key Challenges


  • As required to provide integrity and technical Assurance for Rotating Equipment Fit-For-Service (FOS)
  • The site handles Cryogenic LNG fluid which high inflammable hence it is imperative to define any corrective & proactive actions to prevent any process safety incident.  This will require continuous monitoring of Field conditions, TPAMS parameters, PAMS
  • Operating in a complex and challenging environment. Multiple challenges of ensuring high reliability in an environment where there are existing reliability issues like Seawater Pump, Gas Turbine, Submerged Cryogenic pumps that are both external & internal in nature, employing contractors for specific works with compliance to Shell CF, working within the bounds of local factory rules, working with a controlled budget with strict budget control.
  • Accountable for all Safety Critical Equipment (SCE) condition monitoring is being carried out as per schedule and actions are placed on top priority for deviations if any.
  • All PM & PdM plans are in place and execution as per timeline
  • Adherence to Shell statement of business principles.
  • Establish good relations with regulatory bodies and respective authorities. 100% compliance of prevailing regulations 
  • Continuous improvement of complex availability /reliability and reduction of mean time to repair.
  • No production loss, plant trip or quality non-conformance as a result of tasks performed.

Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience


Essential (minimum) Requirements


  • Minimum bachelor’s in mechanical engineering or equivalent. Minimum 10+ years in the industry as mechanical Engineer in Petrochemical or oil & gas industry.
  • Experienced in Engineering, and maintenance (including minor and major overhaul) of centrifugal pumps (Vertical/Horizontal/Cryogenic multistage pumps), Blowers, Gas Turbine and compressors, and Reciprocating/Screw compressor, Design Application, Advanced Troubleshooting skills and technology, etc.
