eMobility R&D System Engineer


Business Information:


Hitachi Energy India Development Centre (IDC) is a research and development facility with around 500 R&D engineers, specialists, and experts, who focus on creating and sustaining digital solutions, new products and technology. This includes product integration, testing, cybersecurity, and certification.  The India Development Centre is situated in Chennai and Bangalore. IDC collaborates with the R&D and Research centres of Hitachi Energy, which are spread across more than 15 locations throughout 12 countries. In the past 20 years, IDC has secured more than 200 international papers and 150+ patents.

Able to lead a team with strong people management skills, to deliver the value, expected from the team.  The team manager is expected to define and implement both long term and short-term strategies, for the team, as per the overall organization strategy.


Your Responsibilities:


  • Contribute to R&D projects from the initial concept stage to final product rollout
  • You will be responsible for the overall electrical system including
  • Selection of appropriate ratings (power, voltage, current) of the equipment
  • Selection of on-board battery energy and voltage levels or agreeing these with other partners, e.g., bus OEMs
  • Designing the overall charging system based on an understanding of the dependence on the above
  • Develop and assess protection concepts for low voltage - low power charger (100kW 600V DC)
  • Develop and assess protection concepts for high power chargers (1500kW 1500V DC)
  • Develop system simulations for grid code compliance (THDi, THDu, power factor, DC ripple etc.)
  • System design, SLD & MLD (single- and multi-lines diagrams), BOM (bill of materials)
  • Write tutorial, guidelines, test procedures, report templates for engineering and commissioning engineers
  • Write technical specifications for internal and external suppliers
  • Benchmark and cost evaluation
  • Audit, assessment of external partners, including power electronic converter part
  • Lab testing (heat-run, EMC, noise, electrical endurance), official type tests certification, factory acceptance tests, site acceptance tests, commissioning, end-user training at a domestic and international level
  • Support customer project tendering and execution activities

Your Background:


  • Degree (University/University of Applied Sciences) in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis on Power Electronics and Control
  • Industrial experience with low voltage power converters is an advantage
  • Proficiency in the use of simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink or PSCAD.
  • Experience with low voltage and medium voltage network distribution would be an advantage
  • Experience with DC network & Energy Storage Systems (battery, supercaps, BMS) would be an advantage
  • Experience in eRoom, outdoor panel, cooling design, and noise attenuation would be an advantage
  • Team spirit with the capacity to work independently, complemented by a quick intellect and well-developed analytical skills
  • Experience working in an Agile development team would be preferred
  • Experience in working with IEC standard, ANSI etc.
  • Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required.
