About Consumer Services: Consumer Services are responsible for the development and transformation of digital courseware and platforms that serve UK and International Primary and Secondary schools. The platforms provide a range of time-saving tools for teachers and learning experiences for pupils that are engaging and rewarding. The Role


The position is for a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to work on transformed AWS-hosted cloud solutions. We’d expect that you’ll have significant prior relevant experience as a Quality Assurance Engineer working with manual testing and automation tools, testing solutions that provide real benefit to users, and working in an Agile project delivery environment using Scrum or Kanban.


The role maps to SFIA level 4 for Systems Development\Testing, as follows:


  • Selects appropriate testing approach, including manual and automated testing.
  • Develops and executes test plans and test cases.
  • Implements scalable and reliable automated tests and frameworks.
  • Collaborates across parties involved in product, systems or service design and development to enable comprehensive test coverage.
  • Identifies improvements in requirements, design or specification processes to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of testing.
  • Analyses and reports on test activities, results, issues and risks, including the work of others.

Key Skills & Experience


  • Design and development of Automation Frameworks and integration with Automation tools (Selenium, REST assured, Postman, Swagger, TestComplete, Cucumber)
  • High expertise in testing concepts – both manual and automation (50%/50%)
  • Experience with API testing including RESTful Web Services
  • Use of HP ALM for test case management
  • System Integration Testing concepts and experience in coordinating with multiple teams during SIT
  • Creation of Regression test suites
  • Effective documentation and management of defects in JIRA or related tool
  • Preparation, review and maintenance of test documentation such as Test Cases / Scenarios and Defects
  • Working with Product Owner and/or Business Analyst to refine and estimate requirements.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Agile Software Development
  • Experience working with distributed teams, including offshore team members.

Desirable Skills & Experience:


  • Preparation, review, and maintenance of effective Test Plans, in line with the Test Strategy
  • Providing support to Performance and Security testing teams
  • Application of stringent Definition of Done (DoD) on moving stories to Done in JIRA
  • Working with Developers to utilise testing methodologies like TDD / BDD in Cloud / Hybrid environment 
  • Experience with Jenkins and Maven
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • Shift Left Testing 
  • Knowledge of AWS or Azure
  • Experience with Jenkins and Maven
  • Accessibility and Compatibility Testing

Job Location and Hours


All our roles are hybrid working; for this role that means visiting your base office no more than once a week with the possibility of occasional travel to other Pearson sites, however, candidates must be a suitable commute from their base office.


The role is aligned to our Bangalore or Chennai offices, working a 45 hour week, Monday to Friday 9 to 6 IST. As we regularly work with global teams, particularly in the UK and US, there may be the occasional need to accommodate meetings outside of core hours.


For this role there is a requirement to provide occasional out of hours support during business critical periods.
