Quality Engineer is responsible to lead the quality in Genset assembly and test area. Manage team to support the genset assembly & test Quality operations. Set quality standards and procedures for genset assembly & test. Lead the quality issues investigations and ensure the intermediate and permanent corrective actions.
Conduct the process audits and ensure the process capability. Improve the quality of product through engineering controls. Create reports and governance for quality metrics. Train junior quality engineers and team members & team leaders.
Communicate with global quality teams and product teams to ensure the same global standards. Able to analyse the genset test data and present effectively to engineering teams. Knowledge of genset testing systems and international standards is preferred.
Primary responsibility is to provide support for quality initiatives in facility operations, supplier quality, and materials technology. Position will ensure conformity to global quality processes defined in the Caterpillar Quality Management System (QMS), day to day management of quality resources, and ensure resources are trained and competent. JOB DUTIES:
The incumbent, through the Quality Control staff, ensures the conformance to specifications of fabrications, purchased material, machined parts and assemblies in an assigned area. Inspection gauges are also certified periodically to ensure valid inspection results. Decisions made by this position have significant impact on the quality reputation of company products. The incumbent interprets inspection policies and procedures and supervises the activities of bargaining unit personnel.
The incumbent in this position is responsible for overseeing the execution of processes, plans and tools that support global quality systems or related processes i.e. Cost of Poor Quality, APQP, PPAP, quality certifications, MQ11005 and MQ12005 etc. The incumbent must also ensure alignment to CPS (Caterpillar Production System) principles.
Quality Technicians use precision equipment to audit the first piece of a setup and succeeding parts periodically, inspect gages for accuracy and check finished parts for overall conformance. They inspect the assembling and testing of components and prime product, investigate various assembly problems and report all pertinent facts related to dealer returns.
Quality is reflected in the maintenance of cost and quality requirements of the product and also contributes to the prevention of defects by eliminating the cause. Quality standards are maintained by providing proper inspection gauging tools, procedures and tests which begin in the planning stage of production where proper tooling, machines and inspection equipment are essential to produce the desired quality.
The incumbent is responsible for verifying that quality is being maintained throughout the assembly and test process. Works with assembly Planning, Engineering, Operations and other functional areas in establishing audit procedures, audit frequencies and quality teams to insure customers are receiving a Caterpillar quality product.
Plan work and manage shop floor quality controllers. Establish schedule of product control and equipment control.
Organize checking, repair of measurement devices. Conduct initial testing, selection, training and assessment of quality controllers.
The position reports directly to a Quality Manager and is typically responsible for quality associated with a product line or value stream including auditing and certification. The position supervises or manages a work unit of hourly or salaried employees where planning, scheduling, training, monitoring, and reviewing work of subordinates is required, and is responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluation of subordinates. They will engage with Component Groups, Global Quality resources and Facility Management.
Typical internal customers include employees from two or more work groups in a Division. The position's primary customers are internal. The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems, which may not be obvious. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from existing solutions and by developing new ones. The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan in order to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results. Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Efficiency, Process Quality, Part Quality, Internal Quality Certification, Vendor Certification, ISO 9000 Certification, etc. The position meets or exceeds quality standard set for the measure(s) stated.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Manufacturing with an excellent understanding of quality management practices or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 7+ years of mandatory experience is required. The ability to utilize a variety of computer software packages is also necessary. In addition, three to five years of job-related experience are typically required. Good human relations skills are required to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside the department.
