Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Publisher to lead the development, management and delivery of Springer Nature’s new journal in Agriculture and Food Sciences. The role involves overseeing all aspects of the journal’s growth, ensuring it meets milestones for indexing, submissions and high-quality publications. The ideal candidate will leverage their publishing expertise to uphold best practices and contribute to the journal’s content, reputation, and impact within the global academic and research community.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and execute the publishing strategy for the journal ensuring alignment with organizational goals and tracking performance through journal targets and development plans.
- Work with the team to recruit, onboard, and engage Editorial Board members and Associate Editors.
- Build and maintain strong, productive relationships with Associate Editors, Editorial Board members to enhance the journal’s quality and visibility. This includes but is not limited to organizing and leading meetings to discuss journal progress and strategy.
- Collaborate with editorial, marketing and customer support teams to meet journal performance targets
- Actively commission and oversee the timely publication of peer-reviewed content for the journal
- Oversee the indexing process to achieve key milestones at the earliest opportunity
- To build and maintain productive and effective working relationships with the Associate Editors and Editorial Board members, to continuously enhance the quality and visibility of the journals
- To work with editorial, customer support and marketing teams to ensure journals are meeting targets
- Identify and actively commission content for our journal and work to oversee the timely publication
- Coordinate with editors to ensure a healthy submission pipeline and efficient manuscript processing.
- Address queries related to editorial and ethical policies, in collaboration with the Publishing Director
- Represent the brand and the journal at external meetings, conferences, and events to promote its visibility and engagement
- Conduct market research to monitor journal performance, identify growth opportunities, and inform strategic decisions.
Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in a relevant field (Agriculture & Food Sciences) is desirable
- Substantial experience in STM publishing, preferably in launching new journals
- Strong knowledge of the subject area covered by the journal.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across diverse stakeholders
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration and presentation
- Proven project management and organizational skills, capable of handling multiple projects and overlapping deadlines
- Self-motivated ,with ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Familiarity with publishing platforms and software is preferred
