Job Description:


The individual will be primarily responsible for leading the Manufacturing Operations as the Product Manager for the Healthcare Business Group (HCBG) of 3M India


The individual should be able to apply broad knowledge and extensive experience in Manufacturing to deal with variations in work conditions and operations to solve complex and diverse problems. Direct leadership responsibility for subordinates with clearly defined roles. Reviews and approves work results conducted by subordinates.


Performs complex analysis as well as ensures compliance with established manufacturing Processes & Practices. Manages professional and support level employees to ensure production volume and schedule as well as cost, quality & productivity of production are met. Handles nonroutine and difficult inquiries such as investigating alternative methods to address & solve challenging situations.


Major Duties and Responsibilities


1. Applies deep knowledge and vast experience to deal with variations in work conditions and operations to solve complex and diverse problems. Supervises the development and implementation of improvements and/or solutions to work processes and tools in support of business and strategic plans. Reports to manager/supervisor on key milestones and critical business initiatives. Receives additional guidance from the supervisor as necessary.


2. The individual has budget responsibility for team/work group. Makes recommendations that impact how financial resources are generated or spent.


3. Manages subordinates with clearly defined roles within direct functional disciplines, such as Production & Process Engineering and collaborates to provide direction to support functions such as Quality, Production Planning, Materials and Warehousing, Maintenance, Health/Safety/Environment, Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement, etc. Determines priorities and timetables, assigns resources/tasks, and provides performance feedback. Accountable for the activities and results of their subordinates.


4. Subordinates are on a support or lower professional level.


5. Supervises development and implementation of functional and cross-functional projects, plans, and programs in support of business and strategic plans. Proactively communicates project direction and status to appropriate personnel.


6. Handles a wide variety of non-routine and difficult inquiries where the solution is not immediately apparent. Develops solutions for multi-faceted, interrelated, and complicated problems, which require strong analytical skills and significant interpretation of data. Most complex problem solving may require conceptual thinking to assess options, making decisions by applying extensive experience and knowledge of related and non-related precedents, practices and policies to solve significantly different problems.


7. Resolves issues and conflicts related to direct reports.


8. Has a major impact on the direct work group/team, as well as the next higher organizational tier. Decisions affect the operational effectiveness of multiple work groups or teams, programs in the department, and/or related activities within the direct functional area.


9. Work tasks encompass concepts within multiple disciplines/practices which may include more than one department/location such as R&D, Marketing, Sales, Materials, Sourcing, Finance, Logistics, etc.


Working tasks might include:


a. Provides training on key manufacturing concepts and measures that are critical to the business


b. Ensures production volume, cost and quality of production, as well as production schedules are met


c. Monitors production processes, work assignments, attendance control, vacation planning, staffing levels, etc.


d. Investigates alternative assembly/production methods


e. Maintains compliance with company policies and safety levels


f. Works with engineering in reviewing methods of operations to improve efficiency and rates including scale up of new equipment and processes


10. Incumbent typically communicates with internal and external clients, such as department heads and direct subordinates and occasionally area/business leaders. As an expert, the employee also provides consulting assistance to senior management. Serves as representative of the work group or team to management as appropriate.


11. Negotiates and counsels at an expert level with an audience which may not be knowledgeable in the subject area. Demonstrates solid persuasion skills and manages differing interests and perspectives.


12. Actively participates in relevant corporate programs/initiatives, complies with professional and quality standards, complies with corporate policies and procedures, and acts in a manner consistent with 3M’s values and ethical standards.


13. Provides direct supervision to assigned employees through leadership, coaching, training, development, allocating work assignment, review of progress in achieving objectives managing employee compensation, performance appraisals, diversity, disability, all relevant employee data, etc.


14. Understands and enforces corporate & country policies and procedures. May manage workforce vendors and contracts.


15. The job also requires performing other duties as assigned by the Supervisor from time to time.
