Position purpose:


The Product Stewardship/Hazard Communication Specialist supports the Thermo Fisher LSLPG division portfolio by completing hazard assessments, preparing hazard communication documents (safety data sheets and labels), assisting with SDS distribution, and maintaining product information systems for knowledge management and compliance assurance. Hazard communication responsibility is to provide information to users of hazardous chemicals and chemical mixtures so that they can protect themselves from any physical and health hazards using SDS and/or product labels.


KEY Responsibilities:


  • Hazard evaluation of products based on chemical formulation.
  • Prepare and publish global Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and labels for the company's commercial and experimental products in compliance with applicable hazard communication regulations using the WERCS software.
  • Communicate with Thermo Fisher, R&D staff/manufacturer to ensure detailed compositional and physical property data needed for the product's hazard assessment is provided. 
  • Comfortable working closely with internal Product Management, Sales, and Project Management teams.
  • Understand the laws and global and region-specific regulations governing SDS authoring, downstream chemical distribution, and hazardous chemical management.
  • Maintain data integrity on hazard assessments in the SDS authoring system.
  • Actively participate in workflow and system development projects to continue to maintain compliance with global regulations and related regulatory requirements.
  • Provide accurate and timely information to internal and external customers.
  • Continuously improve SDS and label processes, focusing on simplicity, transparency and efficiency, using the PPI process (Lean Methodologies).
  • Research and maintain knowledge of changing country-specific hazard communication standards and regulations.
  • Support the team in projects related to Hazard Communication.

Requirements for qualification / Education / Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Toxicology, Chemistry, Biology or other life sciences.
  • Requires strong analytical skills and the ability to accurately deal with large amounts of detailed information.
  • Excellent Microsoft Suite skills. Should be comfortable with advanced MS-Excel.
  • Strong English skills.
  • Demonstrated the ability to work in a team atmosphere and to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborate effectively with a diverse group of colleagues in various locations.
  • 1-2 years of experience in Product Stewardship, Hazard Communication, Regulatory Affairs, Dangerous Goods – IATA, IMDG or ADR certification or EHS field is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with chemical regulations like EU-CLP, REACH, Safety Data Sheet requirements, etc. is preferred.

  • Knowledge and experience in global hazard communication requirements and chemical control laws.
  • Demonstrates involvement during business requirements with optimism and a “can do” perspective.
