The Impact You’ll Make in this role:
As a Product Development Specialist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by directly supporting our Materials and Processing Technology development in the Acoustics and High Temperature Materials Portfolios through:
Being Creative and Focused in:
- Development, commercialization, and identification of new opportunities to support new product development.
- Building and protecting 3M intellectual property through filing of new patent applications and trade secrets.
- Pioneer solution engineering through translating customer / market needs that may be articulated or unarticulated – meticulously in clear alignment with AASD Global R&D Objectives and strategies.
- Helping teams to build a continual creative environment that will substantiate the spirit of innovationin everyday work.
In Collaborative ways as:
- Participating / leading the new product introductions on division New Product Introduction (NPI) team as a subject matter expert.
- Working cross-functionally to support and achieve portfolio objectives and providing sound and effective technical inputs to the business.
- Fostering partnerships with manufacturing and supply chain teams, suppliers, and partners to attain the desired results through trials, process development and machinery improvements wherever necessary; validating experiments and methods with pilot and scale up activities.
- Connecting with 3M’s Corporate Research and Staff laboratories for technology and product transfers.
Delivering technical competence through:
- Developing and validating experiments and methods with pilot and scale up manufacturing activities.
- Implementing product standards, product changes, and completing associated documentation.
- Identifying and validating test methods to demonstrate product robustness and initial manufacturing capability.
- Identifying and suitably implementing ideas for improving quality, productivity in throughput and costs of materials.
- Working closely with manufacturing teams on CMP’s around raw materials and process improvements.
- Representing 3M as a technical expert and steward in industry forums and panels and contributing through paper publications.
About You - Skills and Qualifications:
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Master’s degree or above (Ph.D. desirable) in Materials Science and / or Engineering / Allied subjects from a recognized and reputed university
- Minimum 5 years of relevant Industry work experience, including but not limited to new age materials metamaterials, nano composites, nano fibers, metal oxide framework, Coatings, Polymers & Ceramics.
- Knowledge of Materials Modelling involving Molecular modelling, MATLAB, FEM and related virtual simulation technical tools.
- Proficiency in fundamentals of Materials Science including Ceramics, Coatings, Polymers, Inorganic, Metallurgy, Metamaterials & nano composites.
- Expertise of basic physics principles required to understand, interpret, and communicate results from Dynamic Mechanical Analysis, Rheometer, thermal modelling testing equipment, test methods and standards.
- Expertise and knowledge in polymer processing and nonwovens will be an added advantage.
- In-depth experience in product engineering, product/technology development, or manufacturing technology experience in multiple products or platforms.
Desired Soft Skills:
- Clear & persuasive communicator (both spoken and written) and presenterwith having good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Solution seeker – ability to critically evaluate different solutions to address need of the market.
- Build relationships and networks with Global R&D and be able to work closely with Customers as well.
- Challenge the status quo of how things work in the technical field.
- Commercial intensity- track record to drive product to commercial success.
- Ability to manage risk and creativity to solve unusually hard problemswith deep reasoning ability, both analytic and strategic-without being unipolar all the time.
- Leadership and networking skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to manage cross functionally and influence/ indirectly manage other teams within 3M.
