An exciting opportunity for Product Definition & Configuration Control Engineer have arisen to influence and shape the future of the Defence business in India. The roles involve working with business and external stakeholders to support the delivery of key programme milestones thus enabling the delivery of our Defence Combat strategy.


In this role, you are responsible for carrying out Product Definition activities across new and existing products, ensuring that the technical and safety integrity of the design is maintained in accordance with company procedures. You will also be responsible for ensuring the programme maintains control of its product definition data throughout its lifecycle through implementation of Configuration Management principles.


The role of a Product Definition Engineer includes being influential during all stages of the design cycle (e.g. creating the master model and producing the component definition, producing tolerance stack-ups), manufacture of the part (e.g. supporting Design For Manufacture activities and the manufacturing buy-off process), right through to supporting parts in-service (e.g. managing and incorporating Drawing Alteration Requests, supporting concession activities and supporting in-service investigation work).

What you will be doing:


  • Prepare, develop and maintain the 3D master CAD model, technical drawing and relevant documentation in accordance with company procedures, engineering drawing standards, design intent (fit, form, function), manufacturing & build capability, project costs, timescales and quality requirements.
  • Produce tolerance stack-ups to aid new product development & validation and to support in-service investigation work.
  • Work as part of a multi-discipline team to ensure new and revised component definitions are fit for purpose.
  • Implementation of configuration management principles, business rules, processes, and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in tools, methods and processes and support capability team in development and deployment of enhanced capability.
  • Define plans for product definition tasks; working with key stakeholders to ensure all work meets customer expectations and is completed to an agreed quality standard.

Who we are looking for:


  • Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering. Other qualifications, in combination with relevant experience, may also be considered.
  • Have experience in conceptual and detail design, detail drafting methods and a good understanding of manufacturing techniques.
  • Experienced in using Siemens NX, Teamcenter and ISO/ASME Y14.5M drawing standards is essential.
  • Appreciation of gas turbine operation, configuration management and Product Lifecycle Management would be advantageous.
  • Experience in creating Component Definitions in a wholly digital format (Model Based Definitions) would be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, and will need to be able to contribute effectively in a team environment.
