About the position:
The Process Control Engineer is part of the Process Engineering & Automation team in the Chevron ENGINE Center and provides technical consultation and research consultation for Chevron in facility alarm management including applying standard solutions and techniques for alarm management and alarm rationalization across Chevron.
The role will work in close collaboration with a team of Alarm Management Subject Matter Experts in the Chevron Technical Center (CTC).
Key responsibilities:
Apply Chevron Engineering Standards (CES) and industry standards related to Alarm Management
Complete the Alarm Philosophy documentation for a project or Business Unit
Compile and prepare data for an Alarm Objective Analysis (AOA)
Analyze and provide technical comments on alarm management engineering design documents to ensure compliance with Chevron Engineering Standards (CES) and industry standards
Execute the Process Control System (PCS) programming and configuration related to alarm management
Effectively use alarm lifecycle management software to update and evaluate relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and provide recommendations
Maintain and use alarm metrics and reporting applications and support operations in the troubleshooting and resolution of alarm management issues
Track and catalog bad actors and develop an action plan to address and mitigate nuisance alarms to increase operational reliability
Participate in on-the-job training/development opportunities through mentoring with Chevron Technical Center technical center counterparts
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B. Tech) in chemical or electrical or instrumentation discipline engineering from a recognized (AICTE) university
Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with Chevron’s global employee workforce
Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years in an alarm management engineer or process control engineer role with a major petrochemical or oil and gas industry or major engineering and design consultant (EPC) or control system (examples, Honeywell, Yokogawa, Emerson) service provider.
Experience with alarm lifecycle management activities such as alarm philosophy, alarm rationalization, setting up and monitoring of alarm key performance indicators and alarm reports, supporting operations with the alarm optimization, implementation of advanced alarm suppression techniques etc.
Experience with common alarm lifecycle management application solutions such as Hexagon PSI (preferred), Honeywell Dynamo, Yokogawa CAMS.
Familiar with analyses, data extraction and configuration of at least one of the common Chevron control systems that includes Yokogawa Centum VP, Honeywell Experion, Emerson DeltaV.
Experience in Process Control or Control Systems Engineering.
Diverse facility experience in all business segments.
Knowledge of industry & technology advancements.
Experience with common PLC or packaged control systems applications e.g. Rockwell, Wonderware
Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1:30pm to 10:30pm.
