Job Description

Position Summary

We are looking for a Principal Engineer to join our creative team of UI developers. You will work with a team of experts in user experience, design, web application frontend development.

As a Principal Engineer, you will envision, design and implement modern and scalable web applications to configure, monitor, and visualize Big-IP Next and Central Manager GUI and new generation ZTNA (Zero Trust Network Access) services. You will explore various technologies, components, libraries, tools, etc. and help the team make the right design decision, and spearhead the over-all UI development and unification effort.

Primary Responsibilities 

• Architect and design intelligent web applications that serves the diverse requirement of the over-all Big-IP portfolio
• Code while considering performance, scalability, maintainability, and flexibility
• Innovate on features to deliver simple and intuitive usage for provisioning, monitoring, information visualization, debugging, and big-data analysis
• Act as a liaison between various stake-holders (architects, UX designers, and product managers) and the UI development team
• Manage and lead the over-all development effort for the UI team, taking part in design discussions, providing key inputs and critical guidance
• Chip in to design end-to-end system architecture, working with different technical teams
• Learn, evaluate and select the right technologies/frameworks, best design practices and usability patterns
• Document best practices, knowledge sharing, standards/guidelines and procedures
• Document software designs via functional specifications and other design documents
• Engage in hiring, onboarding and mentoring as required
• Adhere to and uphold F5’s Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

• Should have proven track record of end-to-end UI implementation from previous projects
• Should be able to showcase and articulate key decisions, take-aways and learnings from the past projects
• Should be well-versed and hands-on with modern web technology stacks
• Should be familiar with and practitioner of modern UI testing frameworks such as Cypress etc
• Should be comfortable with quick POCs, technology demonstrators and rapid prototyping
• Knowledge of web accessibility principles is a must
• Should be familiar with open source technologies and protocols related to 3rd party library consumptions
• 7+ years programming experience with Typescript, Angular, React, JavaScript
• Strong knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and SASS/SCSS
• Deep understanding of source control tools, such as: GitLab, pipelines, etc.
• Excellent analytic / trouble-shooting and debugging skills is a must
• Should have excellent articulation skills, both written and verbal
• Able to collaborate and thrive in a fast-paced high-performance environment
• Demonstrates emerging leadership qualities. Serves as de facto lead in small group interaction.
• Can design and implement new functionality in multiple feature areas, while developing subject matter expertise in at least one.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a minimum of 10+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.
