Principal Engineer-Process Safety (Genesis)

We are currently seeking a Principal Engineer-Process Safety, reporting directly to Head, Genesis Chennai to join our Genesis team based in Chennai, India.

As a Principal Engineer-Process Safety, you will play a pivotal role in leading design activities, conducting safety studies, and managing workshops to ensure the highest standards of safety and risk management. You will work on diverse projects, including energy transition initiatives such as CCUS, hydrogen, and ammonia, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and interfacing directly with clients.

About you:       
The suitable candidate should have the skills / qualifications of,

• B. Tech / M. Tech in Chemical engineering or equivalent from reputed university with minimum 12+ years of experience in HSE Design with varied activities such as Technical Safety & Risk assessments and analysis.
• Familiar with Technical software’s such as PHAST, Flaresim, BowtieXP, Pipenet etc.,
• Understanding of the Indian and International regulatory framework and Safety case development / COMAH etc.
• Experience in managing formal safety workshops including HAZID, HAZOP, SIL / LOPA.
• Experience in executing Risk studies, including QRA, FERA, and EERA, and risk-based design including ALARP demonstration.
• Experience in Loss Prevention design including, but not limited to, Active and Passive Fire Protection, Blast Protection, F&G Systems, Hazardous Area Classification, and development of design drawings
• Experience in handling Front-End Conceptual studies, Detailed Design, Operational support, and decommissioning activities are preferred.
• Experience in CCUS, Hydrogen, Ammonia and Energy transition projects are preferred.
• Experience in Interfacing directly with Client.
• Experience in exploring commercial domains such as Marketing and Business development activities for Projects.
• Being rigorous, autonomous, curious and a great team player.

Overview / Responsibilities             

• Leading Design activities for Process safety, Safety studies and workshops.
• Organize, Manage and Conduct Formal Safety workshops including HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, LOPA, etc.,
• Execute Risk studies, including QRA, FERA, EERA and risk-based design including ALARP demonstration.
• Perform Loss prevention design which consists of Active and Passive Fire protection, Blast Protection, F&G Systems, Hazardous Area Classification and Development of Design drawings.
• Prepare Technical safety and Risk Study reports after safety workshops.
• Prepare the Action items list during safety studies and proper follow-up with multi discipline in incorporating the action item changes in the design and ensure proper closure for the action items.
• Co-ordination and Understanding of Multi-discipline activities for effective project execution.
• Acclimated to learn new tasks at a fast pace and apply the knowledge effectively for project completion.
• Maintain documentation as per quality procedure.
• Oversee and manage a team of junior engineers on each study.
• Responsible for maintaining client interface during project execution. Coordinate external interfaces with the client, and internal interfaces with the project management team, construction, engineering, and commissioning disciplines.
• Provide necessary inputs required for proposal tendering.
• Liaise with Engineering disciplines, procurement, cost estimation for the necessary inputs required for Proposal works.
• Liaise with other operating centers (within country/ outside country) for delivery of projects while working on projects executed through multicenter.
• Keep up to date with new development of standards, process software, other digital tools, procedures and implement it to the day-to-day work.
• Work in compliance with all safety rules and regulations and maintain quality.
