Job Purpose


This role is responsible for leading data engineering teams to drive execution of Data engineering and Advanced Analytics projects. He/She will work collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and support prioritize data analytics projects that can drive business growth and efficiencies. As a senior member in the Data Engineering team, he/she will stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in data analytics and apply them to the GSK’s data initiatives.


The Principal Engineer, Portfolio and PPRM role will provide you the opportunity to lead key activities to progress your career.  These responsibilities include some of the following:


  • Data & Solution Architecture – Ability to work closely with a team of highly technical Engineers and define data architecture strategy that align with business goals ensuring data availability & data accuracy. Ensuring data quality by implementing and enforcing data governance policies and best practices
  • Data Products & Platform Support – Ability to provide technical support to Data & Platform Support running production.
  • Technology evaluation & selection – Execute Proof of concept and Proof of value for various technology solutions and frameworks
  • Continuous Learning - Staying up to date with emerging technologies and trends in data engineering, and making recommendations for their adoption wherever appropriate
  • Collaboration & communication – Collaborate and work closely with  stakeholder and business and technical teams to effectively communicate architecture strategy & clearly articulate the business value

Basic Qualifications:


We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:


  • BS or MS in engineering, sciences, or equivalent relevant experience required. 
  • 10 - 14 years of experience in building/managing/administrating cloud-based data and analytics applications is required. 
  • Designing solution architecture and present the architecture in architecture review forums.
  • Hands-on experience with data engineering tools such as Pyspark / python using Databricks.
  • Should have good experience on Azure PaaS services like Azure Data Factory, Azure SQl, Synapse, Event hub, etc.
  • Should have good experience in continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), automated testing, data lakes, data warehouses.
  • Basic understanding of data mesh concepts and principles
  • Stakeholder Management & Communication Skills while working with various highly technical team across GSK.
  • Strong creativity, problem solving, customer focus, collaboration, attention to detail and presentation skills.
  • Ability to oversee and matrix manage GSK and 3rd party technical resources.

Preferred Qualifications:


If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:


  • Understanding of IT architecture trends and high-level concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of building analytics applications using Power BI/Spotfire/Tableau
  • Should have exposure on low code platforms, like PowerApps, Mendix, etc.
  • Understanding of data modelling best practices.
  • Experience in Snowflake, AI/ML.
  • Experience of Pharmaceuticals processes and systems
  • Experience in or strong awareness of Agile
  • Understanding of / experience in process design and systems design
