Building off our Cloud momentum, Oracle has formed a new organization - Oracle Health Applications & Infrastructure. This team will focus on product development and product strategy for Oracle Health while building out a complete platform supporting modernized, automated healthcare. This is a net new line of business, constructed with an entrepreneurial spirit that promotes an energetic and creative environment. Title: Principal Database Administrator 


The Oracle Healthcare platform and infrastructure team can provide you with the opportunity to build and operate a suite of massively scaled, integrated cloud services in a broadly distributed, multi-tenant cloud environment. OHAI is committed to providing the best cloud products that meet the needs of our customers, who are tackling some of the world’s biggest challenges. We offer unique opportunities for smart, hands-on engineers with the expertise and passion to solve difficult problems in distributed, highly available services, and virtualized infrastructure. To support this vision, we are building a platform that manages the end-to-end lifecycle, from provisioning to upgrade to termination, and provides a self-service cloud experience to the customer. We are looking for passionate Database Engineers who are experts in Oracle Database, Oracle Cloud, or other cloud platforms, with strong expertise in scripting (Unix/Python/PLSQL) and a good understanding of the SRE skill set, as well as Exadata. Additionally, we seek candidates with experience in performance analysis and optimization (for both database and client), reliability and resilience testing for databases, incident post-mortems, and capacity planning and scaling.


As a Principal Database Administratorin the OHAI DB Services team, you will be responsible for various key areas. In Service Monitoring and Incident Response, you will need strong troubleshooting skills, an understanding of incident response protocols, the ability to work under pressure, and effective communication skills. You will also handle Incident Post-Mortems, requiring analytical thinking, the ability to identify root causes, strong documentation skills, and cross-functional team collaboration. In Capacity Planning and Scaling, you will utilize data analysis skills, an understanding of load patterns and potential bottlenecks, and knowledge of cloud services or virtualization platforms. In Performance Analysis and Optimization – Database, you will need to be proficient in monitoring tools (e.g., OEM, AWR), have expertise in analyzing performance metrics, and the ability to identify and address bottlenecks, as well as knowledge of security and resource management. For Performance Analysis and Optimization – SQL, you will apply similar skills with a focus on SQL performance, using monitoring tools, analyzing metrics, and resolving bottlenecks.You will also engage in Automation Development, requiring proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python), experience with scripting and automation, and familiarity with configuration management tools. Finally, in Reliability and Resilience Testing, you will be expected to design controlled experiments, understand system dependencies, and have experience with test engineering tools (e.g., RAT).


Minimum Qualifications


  • 10+ years of experience as Oracle DBA, shipping scalable, cloud native distributed systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree/master’s degree (Information Technology/Mathematics/Computer Science/Computer Software/Electronics/Operational Research/Computer System Engineering).
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong grasp of Computer Science concepts
  • Knowledge in Python, Perl and/or Shell Scripting
  • Managing production databases running on UNIX flavors (RHEL, OEL).
  • You are experienced at building highly available services, possessing knowledge of common service-oriented design patterns and service-to-service communication protocols.
  • Experience with production operations and best practices for putting quality code in production and troubleshoot issues when they arise.
  • Able to effectively communicate technical ideas verbally and in writing (technical proposals, design specs, architecture diagrams and presentations)
  • Understand the end-to-end configuration, technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics of production services. 
  • Building and managing Linux OS systems with good understanding how the Linux kernel works (IO, Network, etc.) and ability to read and understand source code.

  • Understanding of REST Architecture and JSON is a plus.
