Position Post - Doctoral Fellow Purpose Provide research support to ongoing research project at IIMB on EVT based scaling for estimation of spatial extremes and translate the findings from the project into final reports, case studies, and research papers. The position would involve desk research and potentially some fieldwork.
Duration For a period of one year.
Reporting to Prof. Anand Deo and Prof. Soudeep Deb
Principal Accountabilities & Responsibilities - Assist the faculty mentors in developing theoretically sound estimation methods for spatial extremes.
- Conduct simulation experiments to validate the theory developed.
- Collect real data, if necessary, on which the methodology developed can be tested.
- Assist faculty mentors in documentation, and preparation of research articles with an aim to submit these to top-tier journals.
Qualification and Personal Profile Candidate must have obtained Ph.D. degree in statistics, mathematics or related disciplines
Key Skill and Ability Requirements - The candidate must have a good command of asymptotic statistics, probability and calculus, as well as strong coding skills (preferably in R and Python).
- Strong communication and writing skills in English are necessary. Prior experience of authoring top quality research papers, especially in the areas of rare event modelling/simulation and applied probability will put the applicant at an advantageous position.
