About the position:
The Permit Writing Lead is a team member of the Maintenance and Turnaround organization within the Chevron ENGINE Center and leads a team responsible for the Permit Writing to support Chevron's Refining and Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) assets.This role supervises a team of Permit Writers that are responsible for drafting permits for Maintenance and TAR asset teams within Chevron’s LNG facilities.
Key responsibilities:


  • Manage the Permit Writers responsible for planning and scheduling of all non-turnaround field execution work at the site that is performed by various crafts.


  • SME on Permit Design and drive accountability regarding the use of standard Control of Work Manuals and Standards planning and estimating tools and practices.


  • Accountable for the growth and development of Permit Writers.


  • Manage the delivery of quality execution work plans and updates on scope status and forecast.Collaborate with site representatives to determine work scope to be executed by maintenance teams.


  • Works closely with Operations to ensure Permits are effectively integrated into the operating plan.


  • Partners with the Maintenance Team Leads ensuring all crafts feed work into the workflow and preparing the work for the field.


  • Develop tools to streamline cost and execution forecasting and report on status at the individual project and portfolio level.Seek opportunities to remove inefficiencies from permitting activities.


  • Clearly communicate scope progress to customers, stakeholders, and team members.Assist in growing Permit work process competency within the ENGINE.


  • Provide coaching, mentoring, leadership, and guidance on maintenance processes across various departments including Turnaround (TAR), Front-end-Loading (FEL), Core Maintenance, Production, Engineering, and Planning & Scheduling


  • Supporting backlog management actively to prioritize and address pending tasks efficiently.


  • Participating in incident investigations to identify root causes and implement preventive measures, contributing to a safer work environment.


  • Participate in hiring and organizational design as required.


  • Support succession planning discussions with leadership teams for the ENGINE maintenance and turnaround organization.



Required Qualifications:


  • Experienced operations (maintenance or production) background


  • Deep knowledge in maintenance and production planning and permitry


  • Experience working with control of work or permit to work systems and the preparation of permitry in Refineries and/or LNG facilities


  • Experience in Maintenance and Operation Planning & Scheduling Leadership within the Oil and Gas sector, particularly in LNG and refinery operations.



Preferred Qualifications:


  • 10+ years of field experience supporting the planning and execution of maintenance activities in a complex processing facility


  • Knowledgeable in construction industry best practices. Experience with mechanical, electrical, instrumentation/controls, civil and related disciplines while also having a good working knowledge of complex facility operations, preferably LNG facilities.


  • Experience in mentoring, coaching, and training is desirable.


  • Proficient in Excel, JDE, SAP, Prometheus, Primavera P6


  • Prior experience using Permit Vision or other electronic Control of Work systems.


  • Demonstrated track-record of proactively identifying solutions to problems before they arise and developing contingency plans.



Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1:30pm to 10:30pm.
