Project Overview:


Bechtel is seeking to expand its decades long relationship with Reliance by providing Project Management Consultant (PMC) Services and Engineering Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) Services for offsites and utilities (OSBL) for a multi-billion-dollar upgrade / expansion of existing petrochemical facilities in India. Reliance plans to augment its existing petrochemical facilities in Dahej, Gujarat, and Nagothane, Maharashtra, to expand its PVC capacity. The PMC Services will be led out of India with personnel deployed in Mumbai region, the project sites in India, as well as several key contractor locations across India. The EPCM Services for OSBL will be led out of Bechtel’s India offices.


The positions will be based out of Navi Mumbai.


Job Summary:


In this role, you will supervise a team of Materials Engineering personnel, estimate project staffing needs, and schedule and assign work. You will prepare discipline estimates and work plans and review and approve the development of methods for construction material manufacturing, molding, and use. Your leadership and technical expertise will ensure the integrity and compliance of project materials. 


Major Responsibilities:


  • Establish metallurgical requirements for equipment and piping in mining systems, petroleum refineries, petrochemical plants, and LNG plants
  • Perform assessments of supplier welding capabilities/competencies
  • Develop/Review material selection philosophy reports and material selection diagrams
  • Develop/Review technical specifications for materials and joining operations
  • Assist to engineering disciplines in preparation/review of data sheets and requisition packages
  • Review of materials content in technical bids
  • Review Mechanical WPS/PQR/WPQRs, Data Sheets, P&IDs & LDTs
  • Provide post award technical assist to requisitioning engineers
  • Assist projects through construction and commissioning phases
  • Perform work with minimal technical oversight
  • Meet aggressive schedules
  • Plan and conduct independent work using sound judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of engineering practices
  • Devise practical approaches to solving materials engineering and welding problems
  • Coordinates technical issues with MET specialists, as well as other disciplines on projects
  • Travel to assist activities at construction sites, suppliers’ works, or in other engineering offices

Education and Experience Requirements:


  • A minimum of 20 years’ industrial experience, as well as fluency in both English and Indian dialects is required for this position. Candidate should have at least 15 years of materials engineering technology in an EPC company. The candidate must be qualified to degree level in the practice of Metallurgical Engineering and Welding in India.  

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • A sound knowledge of material damage mechanisms associated with petrochemical plants and power plants
  • Knowledge of international materials standards and pressure vessel and piping fabrication codes
  • Broad working knowledge the principles and practices of Materials Engineering
  • Ability to correlate work with other engineering disciplines

The materials engineer will work as part of an international MET team, and should also have a basic knowledge of other materials related technologies including:


  • Welding
  • Nondestructive examination
  • Paint and coatings
  • Thermal insulation
