Job Description
Digantara is building the world’s first maps for space, Space-Mission Assurance Platform™ (Space-MAP™). Space-MAP™ represents a revolutionary end-to-end infrastructure for sustainable space operations, offering a comprehensive space situational awareness (SSA) solution that simplifies and strengthens satellite operations in the face of the rapidly expanding commercialization of space.
Space-MAP™ is powered by space surveillance & tracking data gathered by advanced ground-based and space-based telescopes.
Why us?
- Competitive incentives, galvanizing workspace, blazing team, frequent outings—pretty much everything that you have heard about a startup, plus more of the satellite/rocket stuff—perhaps handling a satellite or leaning on a rocket.
- Hustle in a well-funded startup with a flat hierarchy that allows you to take charge of your responsibilities and create your own moonshot.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Systems Engineer to join our team. This role focuses on designing mechanical systems and components for both ground-based and space-based instruments. The ideal candidate will have experience in the design of special-purpose machinery, custom automation solutions, and scientific instruments, with a passion for contributing to groundbreaking research.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and objectives.
- Conceptualize and develop innovative precision mechanical machine designs for ground-based and space systems.
- Conduct feasibility studies and technical assessments to evaluate design concepts and propose optimal solutions.
- Utilize CAD software to create detailed engineering drawings, models, and simulations.
- Perform structural analysis, stress analysis, and tolerance analysis to ensure the integrity and performance of designs.
- Select appropriate components, materials, and manufacturing processes to achieve desired functionality and reliability.
- Work closely with vendors and suppliers to source components and ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Engage in prototyping, testing, and iterative design to validate performance and functionality.
- Develop comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, operating manuals, and maintenance procedures.
- Provide technical support and guidance to manufacturing, installation, and commissioning teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience (2 - 5 years) in designing precision special-purpose machinery, custom automation solutions, and scientific instruments.
Preferred Qualities:
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, machine kinematics, and structural mechanics.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) software (e.g., Ansys, Nastran, NX Femap) is desirable.
- Knowledge of machining processes, materials selection, and fabrication techniques.
- Familiarity with tolerance, GD&T, and engineering drawing preparation.
- Experience in QA/QC processes is an advantage.
General Requirements:
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively to overcome design challenges.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to cross-functional teams.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on quality and precision.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
