We are looking for Material/Inventory Management Team Leader - Trainsets, EMU, MEMU and similar


You’ll make a difference by


You will be responsible for material & inventory management activities of trains such as Trainsets, EMUs, MEMUs and locomotives, produced at key manufacturing facilities like Modern Coach Factory Raebareli, Integral Coach Factory Chennai, Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala, and others. You will play a critical role in ensuring the successful operational readiness of high-performance rolling stock projects.


Working closely with Indian Railways, you will provide comprehensive working knowledge of material management and seamless coordination between multiple stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution and high-quality delivery.


The responsibilities will include:


Planning and Coordination:


  • Develop material plans aligned with project timelines and production schedules for rolling stock units.
  • Coordinate with production units, vendors, and service providers to ensure seamless material availability and movement.
  • Manage material requirements forecasting to prevent delays in manufacturing and assembly.

Material Movement and Inventory Control:


  • Supervise the unloading and safe storage of materials at production units (e.g., MCF, ICF, RCF).
  • Ensure smooth material transfers from store to assembly areas for production activities.
  • Monitor and manage materials supplied by Siemens at production sites, depots, and sheds.
  • Organize gate passes, vehicle placement, and loading/unloading of defective materials.
  • Oversee material return processes with vendors for repair or replacement of defective items.
  • Oversee inventory control processes, including stock management, cycle counting, and reconciliation, to optimize material availability and minimize wastage.

Material Planning and Procurement:


  • Develop and implement comprehensive material planning strategies, ensuring timely procurement of materials and components to meet project requirements.

Team Leadership and Vendor Management:


  • Lead and manage cross-functional teams, including service providers and logistics personnel.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery and receipt of materials.
  • Conduct regular meetings with internal and external stakeholders to align on material needs and progress.

Tracking and Reporting:


  • Maintain accurate records of material movement using SAP/Excel and update monthly inventories.
  • Generate and circulate monthly MIS reports on material status and consumption trends.
  • Track and report KPIs related to inventory management, including quality, cost, and delivery performance.

Operational Excellence:


  • Ensure proper use of Material Handling Equipment (M&P), including cranes, trackers, and lifting vehicles.
  • Maintain a record of tools, tackles, and equipment required for material handling and logistics.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance material flow, reduce waste, and optimize costs.

Risk Management:


·Identify and mitigate potential risks related to material availability, quality, and pricing.


Cost Control:


·Implement cost-saving measures and strategies to optimize material expenditure.


Compliance:


·Ensure adherence to relevant industry standards, regulations, and quality management systems.


Project Coordination:


·Collaborate with project teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and components.


Specific Responsibilities:


  • Vehicle Placement:Arrange for the placement of vehicles inside Railway Production Units (MCF).
  • Material Handling: Arrange and supervise the unloading of materials at designated safe areas.
  • Material Movement: Coordinate the movement of materials from stores to assembly areas.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor materials supplied by Siemens and manage inventory at customer production units, sheds, and depots.
  • Vehicle Placement (Customer): Arrange for the placement of vehicles inside customer production units for loading and unloading of defective materials.
  • Gate Pass Management: Arrange for gate passes.
  • Defective Material Handling: Send, receive, and follow up on defective materials for repair or replacement.
  • Material Loading: Load defective materials.
  • Equipment Knowledge: Demonstrate knowledge of M&P equipment (lifting vehicles, trackers, cranes, etc.) required for stores.
  • Data Management: Update material movements in SAP/Excel files and prepare monthly reports.
  • MIS Reporting: Release and circulate monthly MIS reports on materials.
  • Tool and Tackle Management: Maintain records of all tools and tackles.

Desired Skills:


  • A Well-structured approach and decision-making ability.
  • Ability to work effectively in close collaboration with multidisciplinary team’s internal stake holder.
  • Good communication skills in English, Hindi both written and spoken, other languages are an advantage.
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certification in Inventory Management or Supply Chain Management (preferred).
  • 7-10 years of experience in material/inventory management in railway, automotive, or heavy engineering industries.
  • Proven expertise in warehouse operations, vendor coordination, and inventory planning.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP) and Excel for material tracking and reporting.
  • Knowledge of rolling stock components and industrial material handling equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a structured approach to troubleshooting.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Hindi (additional languages are a plus).
  • Expertise in set up of FIFO and managing high volume of material
