Position Summary
This position ensures the selection, testing, and optimization of materials for component and product manufacturing. The role involves evaluating material properties such as strength, durability, and corrosion resistance, and analyzing material specifications. Responsibilities include conducting failure analysis, recommending improvements in material choices, and collaborating with design and engineering teams to meet product requirements and performance standards. The position also supports Material Deviation requests and stays updated on material innovations, sustainability, and evolving industry standards to enhance product quality, reliability, and cost-efficiency. Duties & Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL
·Familiar with various materials and heat treatment processes (metallic and non-metallic).
·Should have a good knowledge and experience in handling "Metallurgy Receipt Inspection Quality" and "Heat Treatment Quality."
·Conversant with ferrous and non-ferrous castings, heat-treated forgings, raw materials (solid bars, hollow tubes, CR/HR sheets, high-strength sheets, hardware, machined heat-treated parts such as case hardening, induction hardening, nitriding, etc.), suspension/sintered parts, and metal joining/friction welding.
·Support sourcing departments for alternate materials and problem-solving.
·Conversant with ISO 17025 standards and have good knowledge of current material standards for oil and gas (NACE, ASTM, DNV-RP F112, API 6A / 6ACRA, etc.).
·Supplier Quality Assurance – Monitor and reduce supplier ppm and field issues.
·Root cause analysis and problem-solving ability.
·Good knowledge of ISO/IATF/EOHS/OHSAS certifications and audits.
·Support R&D departments for metallurgy/materials and heat treatment-related issues, including testing, failure analysis, alternate materials, and benchmarking analysis.
·Possess knowledge of material deviation requests and MDS (Material Data Sheets). Material deviations include, but are not limited to, studying, and addressing deviations between spec requirements and supplier specs (mechanical properties, alloying constituents, manufacturing and treatment specifications, etc.).
·Preferred knowledge of metallic additive manufacturing.
·Understanding and review of technical requirements, customer specifications, NDT, etc.
·Material selection – Advise on appropriate metals and alloys for specific applications based on their properties and performance requirements.
·Process improvement – Collaborate with engineers and the production team to optimize manufacturing processes, ensuring quality and efficiency in material usage.
·Failure analysis – Investigate and diagnose the cause of material failure and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
·R&D – Engage in research to develop new alloys, surface treatments, and processes that enhance the properties and applications of metallic materials.
NON-ESSENTIAL
•Function as an advocate for right material selection, raising awareness and promoting metallurgical practices both internally and externally.
•Willingness to travel, visit, interact with suppliers for problem solving, conduct supplier Assessment Audits
•Awareness on Environmental Concerns/ELV Regulation/RRR
•Awareness on QMS practices/problem solving tools.
•Willingness to undertake Improvements in Processes
Supervisory Responsibilities
·This position has/does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
Reporting Relationship
·This person will be reporting to an ITC Manager
Qualifications
REQUIRED
§Graduate or Postgraduate in Metallurgy / Material Science Technology BE or B Tech from reputed University.
§Working as a specialist / Leading a team for at least 12 years.
§Certification in Materials Management, Corrosion Engineering, or Welding Metallurgy.
§Specialized training in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), Failure Analysis, or Heat Treatment.
