Northern's Technology team within Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM) Technology is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join the Investment Management Technology Application Development Team. In this exciting and challenging role you will be managing a team of developers and performing hands-on analysis, design, development, testing and supporting of applications & services based on core technologies.
• Leads a team of developers and provides guidance on software development best practices, and Agile development methodology
• Develops software solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users; studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigating problem areas; following the software development lifecycle.
• People expectations – manage reports careers and aspirations. Carry out performance conversations to align with people and organization goals.
• Strong interpersonal skills aligning with One Northern goals.
• Translate application requirements and use cases into functional applications
• Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable applications.
• Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of the applications
• Obtains a highly detailed understanding of the applications for which the role is responsible. Acts as technical expert on these applications when interfacing with other teams, both internal and external, and senior management.
• Provides technical expertise at the highest level including training/leadership/guidance to other application or infrastructure architecture staff, ensuring secure coding and robust architecture guidelines are met.
• Works closely with architects and other enterprise stakeholders to ensure solution alignment with best enterprise practices.
• Develops technical specifications for application development initiatives and technology changes and migrations.
• Thoroughly understands decision process issues of technology choice, such as capacities, response time, data interfacing, client server communication, industry standard technologies and new industry trends, etc.
• Evaluates and selects from existing and emerging technologies those options best fitting business/product needs.
• Provides in-depth technical consultation to the clients, partners, and IT management to develop plans and directions to assure the integration of corporate business area requirements.
• Works within an Agile scrum team framework. Taking stories and tasks through sprint, participates actively with product backlog refinement, daily standup and bi-weekly sprint boundary meetings.
• Consults with partners from systems and other business units regarding new techniques, practices, or technologies in data processing and the impact of proposed and ongoing projects.
• Conducts feasibility studies and defines and designs system requirements for complex software development projects.
• Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems.
• Update knowledge and skills to keep up with rapid advancements in industry technological advances and software technology, including languages, operating systems, development tools, etc.
• 10+ years of experience developing .Net and/or Java based applications
• Strong Web UI Development experience with React or equivalent
• Strong Azure development skills.
• Experience with large and complex systems for both internal and external clients.
• Experience utilizing frameworks and technologies such as UML, Spring, Junit, XML, XSL transformations, JAXB.
• Strong database skills - SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle.
• Experience with Web Services (REST/SOAP) and messaging technologies such as MQ and JMS
• Experience with Cloud and micro-services concepts and technologies. Azure, PCF.
• Experience with continuous integration tools: Maven, Bamboo, TFS, ANT and Sonar.
• Strong User Interface and back-end processing experience.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to new environments and learn new technologies.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills.
• Strong leadership skills and business acumen.
• Deep understanding of the full end to end trading lifecycle.
• Experience with Portfolio Construction and Trading of various asset types.
• Experience and skills with automated testing strongly preferred.
• Experience developing within an agile development environment.
• Familiarity with Design Patterns and development tools like Eclipse, Oracle tools.
• Ability/experience in implementing test automation.
• Experience with regulatory reporting integration and applications.
• Experience as a solution architect and integration specialist for trading applications.
• Understanding of Software Development Lifecycle
• Prior experience working with Scrum.
• Self-starter and works effectively with minimal direction
• Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate initiative and good judgment.

• Familiar with US financial market and trade lifecycle a plus
