About the Job


The R&D Manager (labs) will oversee the research and development initiatives within Technip Energies’ Research and Innovation center within IIT Madras Research Park. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, develop and execute R&D programs in alignment with business objectives while engaging in collaboration with IIT Madras.


R&D in Technip Energies is wholly focused on driving the energy transition through technologies such as those enabling carbon capture & utilization, circular economies, bio-fuel development, green H2 and its derivatives etc. This role combines technical expertise, leadership, and a forward-thinking mindset.


Key responsibilities include:


Innovation and R&D:


  • Ideate, scope, design and execute experimentation research and development projects.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (industry partners, research institutions and start-ups) to explore cutting-edge research ideas and co-develop and design experiments.
  • Develop business case, experimentation and development plans working closely with local & global business and technology teams
  • Analyse data, prepare techno-economic estimations, develop insights and report out results from research projects converting experimentation to business value
  • Support and guide the team on identifying, creating and protecting IP including filing for patent

Safe Operations:


  • Develop standard operating procedures and change management process & guidelines
  • Identify hazards and develop risk mitigation & management procedures
  • Ensure all safety procedures are clearly defined and adhered to for safe operations of all the laboratory/pilot plant facilities

Team Leadership:


  • Build and lead a high performing research team within the Technip Energies’ Research & Innovation center in IIT Madras research park.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship, guidance, and career development.
  • Create an inclusive and collaborative work environment that encourages creativity and excellence

Project Management:


  • Planning and reporting of CAPEX and OPEX for the R&D operation
  • Manage supplier/vendor contracts, procurement of new equipment & services and inventory

Stakeholder Management:


  • Be an integral part of the India Technology & Innovation team
  • Communicate plans, progress, and outcomes to management.
  • Work seamlessly with the IIT Madras Research Park ecosystem.

Risk Management and Compliance:


  • Ensure compliance of R&D operations with industry and Technip Energies’ standards
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to data privacy, cybersecurity, and intellectual property
  • Support audits and certification for HSSE and quality standards and reporting per ESG requirements

About You


We’d love to hear from you if your profile meets the following essential requirements:


  • A Post Graduate degree (PhD preferred) in engineering, technology, or science from a reputed university.
  • Proven track record of leading and delivering innovative solutions and projects, with minimum 15 years of relevant experience in the oil & gas, energy sector.
  • Hands-on experience of setting up, working in and leading industrial R&D programs including wet lab experimentation.
  • Expertise in at least one of the energy transition or emerging energy sectors such as green hydrogen, ammonia or methanol, carbon capture and utilization, bio-fuels or bio-chemicals, plastic circularity.
  • A strong knowledge of the latest trends and developments in energy transition and the relevant technologies and innovations.
  • A strong knowledge of process, personal and operational safety.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and engage with senior management and external stakeholders.
  • A collaborative and inclusive leadership style, with the ability to collaborate across boundaries inspire and motivate teams.
