What you will do
As the Manager, Product Stewardship and Regulatory Affairs (PSRA) with Tyco Fire Protection Products located in Bangalore, India, you will lead a team of regulatory specialists that cover substance compliance for both chemical agents and hardware/electronics. You will be responsible for guiding the team to develop, implement, and sustain proactive regulatory information tracking programs to ensure Johnson Control’s fire suppression products meet applicable global product chemical control law, hardware substance compliance and other applicable regulatory requirements. You will provide guidance and direction to new product introduction and sustaining product functions for hardware and chemical agents as it relates to regulatory, product safety, and product stewardship requirements. You will also monitor domestic and international regulatory developments, communicate potential impacts and support development of action plans to mitigate the impact to business.
How you will do it
- Define, carry out and manage product stewardship strategy that parallels Johnson Controls’ growth strategy and initiatives.
- Coordinate the administration of all product-related federal, state, and local regulations, including review, interpretation, and implementation of standards.
- Accelerate product development efforts by providing expertise and insight into new product and sustaining product enhancement projects.
- Proactively assess the regulatory, product safety and customer-driven product stewardship related criteria versus Johnson Controls’ development strategy.
- Document and communicate potential impacts and risk mitigation strategies to ensure a high probability of project success.
- Maintain relationships with materials vendors in order to quickly gather regulatory information to ensure that both vendor raw materials and subsequent Johnson Controls finished products are within applicable domestic and international regulations.
- Develop standard operating procedures to ensure consistency of Johnson Controls’ message to internal and external customers and adherence to PSRA “best practices”.
- Actively follow proposed regulatory changes related to Johnson Controls’ products and assess impacts of these changes to current and future products or processes.
- Confidently influence the various business functions outside of PSRA to ensure proper consideration of regulatory and product stewardship principles in decision-making processes.
- Work with the PSRA team to develop and sustain internal regulatory/product stewardship stage gate review criteria for new product introductions or sustaining product projects.
- Develop and conduct employee regulatory or product safety/stewardship training to product development and program management teams when applicable.
What we look for
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or closely related technical science field
- 10+ years professional experience related to regulatory affairs, product safety or product stewardship.
- Working knowledge of Hazard communication, Chemical control laws and regulations, REACH SVHC, RoHS, EPDs, TSCA, REACH SCIP, Prop 65 etc.
- Experienced in product development, scale up and manufacturing processes; ability to relate these concepts to regulatory, product safety or product stewardship principles
- Working knowledge and understanding of product sustainability concepts including hazard assessment, Life Cycle Analysis, “green chemistry” and product environmental impact analysis for new product introduction and sustaining product assessments
- Foundational understanding of GHS concepts and SDS authoring for interpretation and application in PSRA decision-making processes
- Highly adept at software office applications (Word, Excel Etc.) and have the confidence to administer HAZCOM or other PSRA software applications when applicable.
- Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills, able to problem solve and lead conflict resolutions.
- Demonstrate ability to lead a team to successfully achieve business objectives.
- Embrace JCI leadership competencies and integrating there use into team leadership behaviors.
- Requires strong analytical skill and ability to accurately manage large amount of detailed information.
- Self-motivated and able to handle tasks with minimal supervision.
- Able to communicate effectively with a global PSRA team.
Preferred:
- Master of science degree in Chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or other related or science discipline.
- 10-15 years’ experience in product regulatory compliance
- Previous regulatory team leadership experience. Consistent history of leading a team to meet objectives focusing on business needs.
- In-depth knowledge and experience with TSCA, REACH Registration, REACH SVHC, CPSC, PROP65, RoHS, DSL, NDSL, SCIP, Green Screen or other global chemical control law and product stewardship regulations
- Experience in working with agencies article and chemical-based products.
- Experience working with multiple customers.
- Ability to interpret and apply policies/analyses/trends.
- Expertise in organizing and systematizing information from large scale multi-disciplinary projects in a professional setting. (e.g., identifying potential process improvements, developing workflows, and tracking project outcomes).
- Proven knowledge and utilization of project management concepts to efficiently drive successful business results.
