Summary


The role involves working for Northern Trust GFS Omnium Transformation & Innovation team supporting the automation solution development lifecycle for the Hedge Fund Services NA business. HFS operates in a multi-tenant platform Omnium supporting mainly Hedge Funds as a global fund administrator specializing in complex and alternative asset investments.  The successful candidate will be an ambitious self-starter who has demonstrated the ability to function as an effective and strategic leader in a dynamic, fast-paced, and demanding environment.  This individual will have a strong technical background, experience working within the Financial Services industry and a proven track record of solving business problems, managing projects, people and internal/external relationships.  The role will be a key part of our GFS Omnium Transformation & Innovation team and will be visible to many teams and partners.


This role is responsible for leading a team of automation specialist, manage multiple critical projects, engage with business users, business analyst and other stakeholders. This Team of Teams was formed to create automation solutions for processes with technology such as Xceptor, Alteryx, Python, SQL, VBA and Power BI as supplemental automation beyond the Omnium Product team. Team follows Scrum framework/Agile Methodology and it is responsible for executing product–focused visions aligned to HFS’ business strategy – optimizing technology sequencing and delivery. The candidate will need to have the ability to support production releases and support which may be during standard business hours, afterhours, and/or weekends.



Major Duties


  • Understands business, functional requirements and develop design specifications for business processing, systems enhancement and estimate development efforts; Provides ongoing business and technical support; Assist in the development of training and change management materials.


  • Able to learn and demonstrate the learning on Projects - Learn, Develop, Deploy and Maintain adhering to SDLC Methodology.


  • Responsible to identify, assess, and document functional requirements, recommending business priorities, and advising business on options, risks, and costs. Conduct research to determine if solutions to business requirements currently exist within or outside the business unit, and if not, whether new solutions are feasible.


  • Provides on-going project support and assists in project planning by estimating and managing teams’ development effort.


  • Act as a troubleshooter. Conducts feasibility studies, and defines and designs system requirements for complex projects.


  • Handle complicated technical scenarios and propose technical solution options


  • Analyse impact of proposed solution across the business, develop use cases to explain/demonstrate business requirements/specifications to IT team, and contribute a business or process perspective during design reviews


  • Organizational skills and the ability to priorities a busy workload


  • Ability to quickly understand new systems.


  • Should be able to play consulting role during solution architect and also give right direction for Business to approach right solution for their problem.


  • Responsibilities will include participating in business and technical meetings gathering and refining business requirements


  • Candidate will facilitate meetings and discussions driving consensus of the business requirements and validating solutions for business owners.


  • Candidate should have experience working through all aspects of the SDLC and adapt easily to both Agile and waterfall SDLC concepts.


  • Self-motivated to drive innovation, advance the adoption of agile best practices across the organization and proactively contribute to SDLC enhancements.

  • Collaborate with project management to keep them informed should any non-Omnium development relate to critical projects to ensure the delivery plans are executed against agreed milestones.

  • Display a balanced, cross-functional perspective, liaising with the business and working with the team itself to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity in project execution.


  • Demonstrate strong collaboration with other stakeholders and high emotional intelligence to build productive and strategic relationships.


  • Proactively recommends and champions efforts to improve overall service quality and promote employee engagement.


Knowledge/skills


  • Develop, Deploy and Maintain experience of Process Automation using technologies like Alteryx/ Xceptor/Python/.NET/VBA etc (with Certification).


  • SQL Scripting and PL/SQL Knowledge will be good to have


  • Experience working on Jira/ADO will be an advantage


  • Technical knowledge of a specific area in the financial and/or investment industry usually obtained by experience in related areas is preferred to design process improvements and to provide support.


  • Knowledge of systems and technological capabilities usually obtained through formal training or experience with applications is required to assess automation possibilities.


  • Analytical and communication skills obtained usually through experience in related jobs or through formal training in system analysis is required to redesign processes.


  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills


  • Strong analytical skills with ability to perform data analysis


  • Good communication and documentation skills


  • Be able to independently manage time and prioritize tasks/responsibilities


  • Be able to work as part of a team, sharing responsibilities and knowledge across


  • Team leading experience including managing people, performance assessment and career progression support exposure with focus on diversity & inclusion


EXPERIENCE


  • A College or University degree and relevant proven work experience


  • Certifications in Agile project management and automation technology are a plus


  • A minimum of 10+ to 14 years of experience; Agile or project management preferred


  • Development and Implementation experience on Xceptor/Alteryx/Python/VBA based Solutions


  • Experience with Investment Management and/or Financial Services; Alternative Asset Management specific a plus


  • Proven product and / or project management practice


  • Familiarity with Agile tools such as Atlassian and/or Azure DevOps or a willingness to learn (Jira, Jira Portfolio, Confluence, Aha, Azure)


  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio) 


  • Familiarity with project management tools and concepts 


  • Familiarity and the ability to utilize formal Agile methodology and frameworks (Kanban and Scrum), principles, techniques, and values for the delivery of new and enhanced applications is a plus


  • Experience using VBA, Python or other scripting languages not required but a plus


INTERNAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA


  • 36 months as a Team Leader/Consultant to move as Senior Consultant
  • 12 months as Senior Consultant/Section Manager for a lateral move
