Key Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, and maintain COBOL programs to support mainframe applications in the railroad industry.
• Create and optimize JCL scripts to manage batch jobs and streamline job control processes.
• Write and execute efficient SQL queries using DB2, QMF, and other querying tools for data retrieval and reporting.
• Design and maintain online transaction processing applications using CICS.
• Develop and manage Stored Procedures in DB2 to facilitate efficient database interactions.
• Utilize ISPF for application development and maintenance tasks on the mainframe.
• Leverage Zeke scheduler to automate job scheduling, ensuring smooth execution of tasks and processes.
• Apply railroad domain knowledge to ensure solutions are tailored to industry-specific needs and challenges.
• Work closely with business analysts and technical teams to ensure application functionality aligns with operational and business requirements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in mainframe systems, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Document all program logic, technical processes, and system changes for future maintenance and improvements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address complex technical and business problems in the railroad sector.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Must Have:
o A minimum of 8 years of experience working in mainframe technologies (Cobol, JCL, DB2, CICS, Stored Procedures).
o Strong experience in Cobol programming within mainframe environments, particularly in the railroad domain.
o Expertise in JCL (Job Control Language) for managing and automating batch processes.
o Proficiency in DB2 database management and SQL querying, including experience with QMF for generating and refining queries.
o Hands-on experience with CICS for developing and maintaining online transaction processing applications.
o Knowledge of Stored Procedures in DB2 to optimize database operations.
o Familiarity with ISPF for mainframe application development and maintenance.
o Experience with Zeke Scheduler for automating job scheduling and managing batch job execution.
• Desirable Skills:
o Railroad domain experience is highly preferred, with knowledge of the logistics, transportation, and operational needs of the railroad industry.
o Familiarity with Dbeaver or similar database management tools for application and data management.
o Strong debugging and performance tuning skills in a mainframe environment.
o Experience with Agile methodologies and development practices.
o Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically about business needs and technical solutions.
o Strong communication skills for collaborating with internal teams and stakeholders.
