Linux Kernel ArchitectThis role has been designed as ‘Hybrid’ with an expectation that you will work on average 2-3 days per week from an HPE office.

High Performance Computing, AI and Labs is a critical element of HPE. What you’ll do:


  • Strong C programming experience and Linux scripting skills
  • Understanding of Linux OS internals and shall have expertise to develop new functionality in the kernel module
  • Should be able to debug kernel issues using various Linux commands like gdb, strace, tcpdump and various network related commands. 
  • Understanding of source code control systems, branching, merging, release management
  • Pull patches from upstream kernel versions to lower versions and build.
  • Understanding of storage concepts and drivers like mpt3sas, smartpqi etc
  • Understanding of Networking-TCPIP.
  • Experience in SCM tools such as Subversion, GIT, GITHUB
  • Knowledge of InfiniBand and programming with RDMA Verbs
  • Knowledge of protocol analysis, network analysers, packet capture devices, or Wireshark
  • Experience programming in a Linux environment
  • Knowledge of virtualization and cloud architectures and technologies like QEMU/KVM/libvert
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with customers and team members, communicating with both technical and non-technical audience
  • Participate on a project team of highly experienced engineers involved in the development of our next generation platform Fabric Interconnect using C and Python
  • Designs, codes and programs enhancements, updates, and changes for portions and subsystems of the NonStop Fabric Interconnect software suite.
  • Develops understanding of and relationship with internal and outsourced development partners on Linux Kernel design and development.
  • Conceptualize ideas, target research and rapid prototyping to determine feasibility, evaluate risks, and create well-thought-out designs and implementation. 
  • Participates in all phases of the product development cycle, from definition, design, through implementation and test. to develop reliable, cost effective and high quality solutions for our products.
  • Drives innovation and integration of new technologies into projects and activities in the software systems design organization.
  • Work with customers and analysts as needed to resolve issues with products, investigate problems, and deliver identified solutions.
  • Collaborate and communicate with management and internal and outsourced development partners regarding project status and issue resolution

What you need to bring:


  • BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, MS degree preferred.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience
