Job Description

We are looking for a highly experienced Data Migration Subject Matter Expert (SME) to oversee and execute complex data migration initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in data migration processes, tools, and methodologies, and experience leading migrations across diverse platforms and databases. As the Data Migration SME, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and continuity throughout the migration process, while mitigating risks and achieving project goals within specified timelines.


Responsibilities:


  • Migration Planning & Strategy:
    • Develop and document comprehensive data migration strategies, including defining scope, objectives, timeline, and resources.
    • Identify risks, dependencies, and key milestones in the migration process.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and source-to-target mappings.
  • Data Assessment & Profiling:
    • Analyze source data, conduct data profiling, and assess data quality.
    • Identify data discrepancies, redundancies, and gaps in legacy systems and define data cleansing processes.
    • Work with data owners to resolve data quality issues prior to migration.
  • Data Mapping & Transformation:
    • Design and document detailed data mapping specifications and transformation rules.
    • Define and implement ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and workflows to migrate data accurately.
    • Utilize data migration tools (e.g., Informatica, Talend, SQL scripts) for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
  • Migration Execution & Testing:
    • Oversee data extraction, cleansing, transformation, and load (ETL) processes.
    • Conduct end-to-end migration testing, including unit testing, system integration testing, and user acceptance testing.
    • Validate migrated data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with source data.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
    • Work closely with business stakeholders, data owners, application teams, and IT to align migration activities with business requirements.
    • Provide regular status updates and reports to project stakeholders, ensuring transparency and timely communication.
  • Documentation & Support:
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation throughout the migration lifecycle, including data mapping, transformation rules, and post-migration procedures.
    • Provide post-migration support and troubleshoot any data-related issues that may arise.
    • Train end-users and technical staff on new data structures and migration processes if necessary.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in data migration, data integration, or data warehousing, with expertise in complex, high-volume migrations.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in data migration tools (e.g., Informatica, Talend, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Hadoop, Apache HBase, Apache Spark, Hive, MapReduce, Scoop, Kafka etc.).
    • Strong SQL skills and familiarity with relational databases (Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server).
    • Knowledge of data modeling, data mapping, and data transformation techniques.
    • Understanding of ETL processes and data integration principles.
    • Familiarity with data governance, data quality management, and data cleansing tools.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Detail-oriented, with a focus on accuracy and data integrity.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, handling multiple priorities effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with cloud migration and familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Certifications in data management or specific data migration tools.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for data handling (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA)
