As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Consumer & Community Banking, Payments Team, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for conducting critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm’s business objectives.


Job responsibilities


  • Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems
  • Develops secure high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others
  • Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems
  • Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture
  • Leads communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies
  • Adds to team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills


  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
  • Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
  • Advanced in one or more programming language(s)
  • Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods
  • Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Hands-on experience in system design, application development, testing, and ensuring operational stability, with a strong proficiency in Java/J2EE, including language fundamentals, core APIs, web services, and design patterns
  • Skilled in implementing Microservices using Spring Boot and Event-Driven architecture, with expertise in enterprise systems utilizing Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and Command Query Responsibility Segregation (CQRS) patterns
  • Proficient in designing and developing applications using AWS services such as ECS, EKS, Aurora Database, SQS, SNS, and EventBridge
  • Experience in messaging-based integration and microservices using Kafka, with a focus on complex interactions between client UIs and middleware systems through object-oriented design patterns and the Spring Framework
  • Proficient in Java performance tuning, multi-threaded/concurrent programming, and working with databases, including DB2
  • Experience in software applications and technical processes across various technical disciplines, including cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and mobile technologies
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
  • Programming experience with NoSQL/NPL 
  • Familiar with modern infrastructure technology and architecture (cloud, virtualization, object stores, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of cloud technologies and front-end development frameworks such as React, along with experience in NoSQL databases like MongoDB and Elasticsearch, and familiarity with the API management lifecycle
  • Prior experience in people management, demonstrating leadership and team coordination skills
