Your Role:


An IMDS (International Material Data System) Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, particularly in the automotive and manufacturing industries. The position focuses on managing material data to meet legal and customer requirements for product sustainability and environmental impact. Below is a detailed job description for an IMDS Engineer in India.


Job overall Requirements


  • IMDS Data Management: Responsible for managing material data submissions on the IMDS platform, ensuring accuracy in material declarations from both suppliers and internal departments, and ensuring compliance with regulations like ELV, REACH, and RoHS.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Adherence: Ensure all materials meet customer and regulatory requirements, stay informed about relevant regulations and standards, and assist in global compliance with environmental and sustainability mandates.
  • Supplier Collaboration: Work closely with suppliers to collect, validate, and guide them on IMDS submissions, including conducting training sessions on compliance requirements.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze material data to identify risks related to hazardous materials, generate detailed reports for stakeholders, and contribute to Life Cycle Assessments for sustainability.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with teams like Engineering and Compliance to ensure efficient data flow and IMDS query resolution, supporting NPIs with timely material compliance data.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in process improvement initiatives, recommend and implement best practices for compliance tracking and material data management.

Your Responsibilities


  • Responsible for processing the requests assigned from the SoC Team Supervisor.
  • Responsible for notifying requesters to submit their requests to the correct request portal.
  • Responsible for answering technical questions regarding Substances of Concern and regulatory data reporting as needed.
  • Escalate to Soc Supervisor any doubt or SoC issue.
  • Responsible for uploading the confirmation letter into the SoC Team request portal once the SoC report has been processed, so the letter will be available for download from the requester.
  • Responsible for reviewing Suppler SoC reports and triggering rejection letter to the appropriate customer thru the system.
  • Responsible for notifying CE if an incorrect weight is found on a part.
  • Responsible of processing Customer requests thru the analysis of substances and population of required templates/formats
  • Responsible of monitoring by trimester the list of regulations substances that impact the SoC group to make sure APTIV PNs are meeting the requirements.
  • Responsible of managing the regulations that apply to SoC thru bulletins, where used reports, mile stones and timelines for replacing the prohibited substances, as well as following up the milestones with the impacted departments.
  • Responsible of reviewing the impact of new regulations at APTIV along with Corporate team and creating an action plan.
  • Responsible of escalating the process with high management or corporate  when/as needed.
  • Responsible of submitting SCIP numbers for the parts shipped to Europe.

Your Background


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, or related fields).
  • 1-2 years of experience in IMDS data management, preferably in the automotive or manufacturing industry.
  • Hands-on experience with IMDS software and material data submissions.
  • Familiarity with global regulations such as REACH, RoHS, ELV Directive.
  • Understanding of material science and environmental compliance.
  • Proficiency in IMDS software, and strong Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) skills.
  • Knowledge of PLM systems is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems (ISO 14001).
  • Experience with supplier management or procurement.
  • Certifications in sustainability or environmental compliance would be an advantage.
