Position Summary


The IT Engineer will provide expert-level support for Linux systems, assist in managing cloud environments, and handle routine storage administration tasks.  Additionally, the engineer will collaborate with counterparts to establish and maintain consistent global support standards and best practices.


Responsibilities


Linux Administration:


  • System Administration: Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux servers (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS).
  • Scripting: Automate tasks using scripting languages like Bash, Python, or Perl.
  • Security: Implement and manage security measures to protect Linux systems from vulnerabilities and threats.
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor system performance and identify bottlenecks to improve efficiency.
  • Networking: Configure and troubleshoot network interfaces, routing, and firewall rules.

Cloud Administration:


  • Infrastructure Management: Deploy and manage cloud resources (e.g., virtual machines, storage, networking) on platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Cloud Migration: Assist in migrating workloads to the cloud and optimize cloud usage.
  • Cost Optimization: Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to reduce cloud expenses.
  • Automation: Utilize cloud automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) to streamline infrastructure provisioning and management.

Storage Administration:


  • Storage Management: Manage storage systems (e.g., SAN, NAS) and ensure data availability and performance.
  • Backup and Recovery: Implement and maintain backup and recovery procedures to protect data.
  • Data Migration: Migrate data between storage systems or to the cloud.
  • Storage Optimization: Optimize storage utilization and performance.

General IT Responsibilities:


  • Problem Solving: Diagnose and resolve technical issues effectively.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively with other team members and stakeholders.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry best practices.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer support to end-users.

Requirements:


  • Proficiency in administering Linux distributions (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS) and scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, Perl).
  • Experience with at least one major cloud platform (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud automation tools (e.g. Ansible, Terraform).
  • Knowledge of storage systems (e.g., SAN, NAS) and backup/recovery solutions.
  • Understanding of networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, routing) and configuration.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, Perl) for automation.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing requirements.
  • Strong customer service orientation to provide excellent support to end-users.

Certifications (Optional):


  • Linux certifications: Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
  • Cloud certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Certified Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Certified Associate
  • Storage certifications: EMC Proven Professional (EPP) Data Storage, CompTIA Storage+

Experience/Education


  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience
  • 5+ years of experience in IT support or engineering roles.
  • 2+ years of experience with Linux administration.
  • 1+ year of experience with cloud computing and storage management.
