Intermediate Business Systems Analyst

About Applications Development at UPS Technology:


Our Application Development teams use their expertise in programming languages and software design to develop next-generation technology. They are responsible for developing the applications which track and move up to 38 million packages in a single day (4.7 billion annually). This team works closely with all our customers to build innovative technologies that are customized to drive our business and provide the ultimate customer experience. About this role:
The Senior Business Systems Analyst performs functions on highly complex projects and provides guidance to a team of Business Systems Analysts (BSAs) on cross-functional projects. He/She serves as a liaison between the business community and Information Services (I.S.). This position elicits and analyzes business needs for highly complex projects and validates that solutions fit within the long-term strategic vision. The Senior Business Systems Analyst determines the impact and integration of solutions to business processes and systems. He/She ensures Business Systems Analysis (BSA) work products conform to quality and content standards. This position stays current on industry best practices, standards, trends, tools, and techniques. He/She collaborates with organizational stakeholders and senior management to establish and implement processes that enhance efficiency and improve work products for the enterprise.

Implements and Applies Business Systems Analysis Processes


  • Creates and validates project work plans to ensure accuracy, effectiveness, thoroughness, and consistency.
  • Coordinates cross-functional participation in the business systems analysis process to ensure consistency and adherence with standards and best practices.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert and performs functions for urgent, high visibility, high profile, and strategic projects to ensure accuracy and completeness while meeting challenging deadlines.
  • Mentors and develops BSAs to improve domain and business analysis process knowledge and skill sets.
  • Develops and contributes to enterprise process standards to ensure consistency, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Recommends and implements process improvements within assigned areas of involvement to continuously improve quality.

Elicits and Analyzes Complex Business Needs


  • Elicits and analyzes business problems and opportunities to drive optimal, cost-effective business solutions.
  • Facilitates meetings to gather relevant information and to ensure understanding of the audience’s knowledge and the stage of project life cycle.
  • Applies appropriate level of details, based on the audience and stage of project life cycles, to ensure mapped solutions satisfy business problems and opportunities.
  • Breaks down highly complex concepts into smaller, comprehensible concepts for analysis to ensure appropriate level of communication and understanding for the project stakeholders.
  • Develops business and functional requirements and corresponding work products for highly complex projects to ensure stakeholders’ understanding.

Communicates Complex Business Needs


  • Elicits information and gains consensus from project stakeholders to ensure common goals are established and achieved.
  • Manages stakeholder concerns and addresses barriers by identifying, anticipating, and mitigating risks and potential issues to prevent project delays.
  • Facilitates collaboration (e.g., stakeholders, team members, customers, etc.) to address issues, support decision-making, and ensure common understanding.
  • Conveys business systems analysis information (e.g., presentations, documentation, etc.) to stakeholders and senior management to ensure consistent understanding of problems, opportunities, and solutions.
  • Develops business and functional requirements and corresponding work products for highly complex projects to ensure stakeholders’ understanding.

Validates Solutions for Complex Business Needs


  • Validates and recommends solutions for cross-functional and highly complex projects to ensure the approach fits into the long-term business strategy.
  • Conducts peer reviews of BSA deliverables to ensure completeness, accuracy, and adherence to quality and work product standards.
  • Participates in peer reviews of architecture, design, and quality assurance work products to identify conflicts and ensure consistent implementation of business and functional requirements.
  • Mentors BSA team members in the understanding of the project domain and the BSA role to enhance performance capabilities, broaden the knowledge base, and increase competencies.
  • Informs and assists stakeholders in the understanding of the project domain to increase quality of work products.

Identifies, Corrects, and Reports Defects in BSA Work Products


  • Executes tests of BSA work products to identify defects, meet standards, and ensure effectiveness.
  • Documents test results to support the efficient resolution of problems and to capture defect data.
  • Communicates test results with others (e.g., other business analysts, management, development teams, business users, etc.) to provide updates (e.g., estimated project end date, defects, functionality, etc.).
  • Enters and validates data in the defect management tool to report variances from expected results.
  • Contributes to problem solving to support efficient resolution of issues and to follow-up on outstanding defects.
  • Collaborates with project team members to exchange information and to respond to requests in a timely manner.
  • Conducts follow-up meetings to track and report resolutions’ progress.
  • Conducts root cause analysis of defects, identifies key and recurring problems, and provides solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Develops and delivers summarized findings of problems to management to recommend proposed actions.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or the equivalent in education and work experience
  • Experience in documenting Windows applications in .NET and on the Azure platform
  • Minimum 4+ years BA experience
  • Minimum 2+ years of hands-on experience with APIs
  • Understanding of Windows IIS WCF and Azure Microservices
  • Familiarity with Azure Kubernetes Service for testing containerized apps
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server queries
  • Knowledge of Data Modeling, HTML and Object-Oriented Analysis & Design
  • Experience with Agile Development 
  • Familiarity with Business Acumen and Technical Analysis
  • Must be detail-oriented and a self-motivated learner
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience working with third-party integration teams
  • Familiarity with Swagger and OpenAPI
