The Intellectual Property Analyst for Cytiva is responsible for assisting R&D and Business stakeholders with various types of IP Intelligence & due diligence activities. The position is part of the global Cytiva IP team .

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:


  • Support R&D with IP review processes for new product development by carrying out various types of patent analytics including freedom-to-operate, infringement analysis, patent invalidation, and patentability assessment. Collaborate with IP counsels and product managers to drive completion of freedom-to-operate reviews.
  • Assist IP intelligence activities by deriving strategic insights from third party patent portfolios and undertaking patent/technology landscapes, patent/technology watches, and non-patent literature analyses using a range of information sources and specialized tools for techno-legal analysis.
  • Perform IP due diligence work for business-critical projects pertaining to growth initiatives, business development, M&A activity, research collaborations, and marketing. Support assessment of business-critical IP portfolios to identify gaps and future growth opportunities.
  • Actively participate in training programs for R&D scientists and engineering teams on various aspects of intellectual property & patent analytics.

The essential requirements of the job include:


  • Masters in science/engineering with 5+ years of experience or Ph. D with 2+ years of experience, with a strong technical domain knowledge.
  • Have keen interest in life science/biotechnology/biopharma industry and in Intellectual Property analysis.
  • Possess excellent analytical skills to search, understand, and assimilate patent & technology information to derive meaningful insights to support IP intelligence.
  • Have good commercial awareness in enabling technologies and services in life sciences/biotechnology domain. Comfortable in handling projects spanning multiple technical disciplines and functional domains. Ability to work on various projects in parallel with an ability to flex and prioritize based on project strategies & business impact.
  • Have ability to effectively communicate science & technology matters and legal insights (both written and oral) in English to diverse business and R&D stakeholders in a cross-functional, global team.  

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:


  • Intellectual Property field performing various types of patent analytics.  
  • Tools and databases used for gathering patent and non-patent literature information, and capable of performing in-depth techno-legal analysis with limited supervision.
  • Technical domains of genomic medicine including cell & gene therapy, viral vectors, lipid-mediated nucleic acid delivery, and stem cells.
  • Technical domains of bioprocessing including upstream bioprocessing (bioreactors, process analytical technologies, cell culture etc.) and downstream purification (chromatography, filtration etc.).
