An IMDS (International Material Data System) Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, particularly in the automotive and manufacturing industries. The position focuses on managing material data to meet legal and customer requirements for product sustainability and environmental impact. Below is a detailed job description for an IMDS Engineer in India:.
Your Role
- IMDS Data Management: Responsible for managing material data submissions on the IMDS platform, ensuring accuracy in material declarations from both suppliers and internal departments, and ensuring compliance with regulations like ELV, REACH, and RoHS.
- Compliance & Regulatory Adherence: Ensure all materials meet customer and regulatory requirements, stay informed about relevant regulations and standards, and assist in global compliance with environmental and sustainability mandates.
- Supplier Collaboration: Work closely with suppliers to collect, validate, and guide them on IMDS submissions, including conducting training sessions on compliance requirements.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze material data to identify risks related to hazardous materials, generate detailed reports for stakeholders, and contribute to Life Cycle Assessments for sustainability.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with teams like Engineering and Compliance to ensure efficient data flow and IMDS query resolution, supporting NPIs with timely material compliance data.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in process improvement initiatives, recommend and implement best practices for compliance tracking and material data management.
Your Background
Key ingredients for succeeding in this role are your:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, or related fields).
- Experience: 2-6 years of experience in IMDS data management, preferably within the automotive or manufacturing industry. Proven hands-on experience with IMDS software and material data submissions.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with global environmental regulations such as REACH, RoHS, and the ELV Directive. A solid understanding of material science and environmental compliance is required.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in IMDS software is essential, along with advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems is advantageous.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail. Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working both independently and within a team.
- Environmental Management: Knowledge of ISO 14001 environmental management systems is preferred.
- Supplier Management Experience: Experience in supplier management or procurement is desirable.
- Certifications: Certifications in sustainability or environmental compliance are considered advantageous.
